W.J. Jeffery & Co. Limited Production Classic Bolt Action .500 Jeffery &.404 Jeffery Rifles

The rifle in the in the photo has a Mod. 70 style safety because the client requested this style of safety. We can and do supply the traditional flag type safety for rifles without a scope. The rifles built on standard actions in the 20's and 30's were just a cheaper offer at the time for clients such as Game Depts I believe.
That client knew what he was about. This rifle is not outfitted for a scope and obviously intended for dangerous game, most likely elephant or buffalo in that caliber. Close range and iron sights. Old style "classic" flag safety might be "bespoke" but this fella wants something that can be made to fire in a hurry. I absolutely could never understand why hunters would actually order a DGR with flag safety. They're such a fiddly thing to get into firing position. Of course one could always carry the rifle with flag straight up in position two ... and risk the bolt unlocking or opening inadvertently. Nothing like suddenly discovering one's rifle is for unknown reason dysfunctional as a buffalo is about to grind some human burger. Model 70 safety is easily and faultlessly disengaged. And it has the added feature of 3-positions. Yes, that client knew something about hunting when he ordered this gun.

Just curious. Is everything Jeffery builds purely custom rifles or do they build some "shelf models" for retailers?

48k pounds sterling ? That’s over 13 million dollars I know inflation has run amok in Europe but.
Great Britain is not Europe, it' a continent of it's own....

Say What??.....You were able to drive a car!?.... Just down the street!?....You lived in town!?.... Man you weren't poor y'all were rich and had it easy.

I had to call the mid wife two counties over to let her know I was on my way. I started out crawling the first 5 miles, ended up walking the next 10 miles of the 15 mile journey in the Ohio summer heat and high humidity to get to the nearest birthing age (only) female neighbor, within 30 miles, and wait another 8 hours, till the wee hours of next morning, for her to finish her day's choirs: plowing and planting a ten acre field with a stubborn mule, milk the three cows, pick up the eggs of the dozen free ranging chickens, slop the 2 hogs and 6 piglets, haul in two buckets of water from the outside well, chop and stock wood for the small multi use rock and clay fireplace, fix supper for her family of 12, eat, clean up after supper, mend 10 mixed matched socks, sew on six shirt buttons and mend the 3 holes in her husbands only shirt, before she could go to bed in the little 2 room log cabin.

It took six months for my folks to settle up with the midwife: half dozen eggs and a quart jar of rendered bacon grease.
You had access to half a dozen eggs?????? LUXURY!!! Me and my 29 siblings lived in a shoebox in the middle of the freeway and knew nothing but starvation and a drunken father who would come home to the shoebox at night and cut us in half with a rusty breadknife, and that was after we were upgraded from living in a rolled up newspaper stuffed into a watertank down at the city dump. We could only DREAM of half a dozen eggs. You live and eat like a king.
