Virgin Atlantic

Cant remember was that pre or post cecil?? Im not too sure if BA was one of the many airlines that went anti after cecil

Pre- Cecil for me.

Back in August, we met some Houston based friends in Joburg and then went to Chobe and Vic Falls for a photo safari. I figured they would fly Delta via Atlanta, as they have a son who is a pilot with Delta and can get them a discount. They ended up flying Qatar, via Doha. A bit longer trip, but they said business class was half the price of Delta. Qatar even provided a day room in Doha, as they had a 12 hour layover. I checked Qatar's firearm policy and it appears they let you check firearms and ammo. Just another option for folks to consider.

All you need to know is the owner is an anti hunter. I wouldn't give him the sweat of my b---s. Tired of these anti hunting liberals a holes .

C'mon JB tell us how you really feel:sneaky:

I shall be ringing BA tomorrow and see what the score is. I would love to fly SAA but the other half want to fly premium economy so that Virgin or BA

Used KLM from Calgary to Johannesburg in May 2014. Great service, no issues. Would use them again if they have the same policies.

If we go KLM it would mean a change over in Holland and she does not seem to keen on doing a change over. :(

I know Delta is on the list of non trophy transporters... But in my expieriance it does not get any easier to deal with firearms than Delta. I've used Air France and SAA, Air France could be good if they had any consistency... $ transfers in Paris, 4 different ways of doing the paperwork.. Some consultant should introduce them to the concept of SOP's.

Delta is a 50/50 airline. You can transport trophies on them just not any of the big 5. At least from what I have read.

So I used SAA since they have direct flights from the US. They were super nice and I had a lot of interaction with them. They did lose my firearm. Let me say it again they did lose my firearm, but they worked with me and made it right. I had 6 people looking for my firearm in Jo-burg. Honestly, luggage gets lost and it is amazing it doesn't happen more. I suspect the luggage was lost due to baggage handler or TSA agent in the states not necessarily because of SAA. This was two weeks after Cecil. I will probably fly with them again.

I flew KLM to Holland then to J-Berg and have to say the service was excellent and the food pretty decent, If there is a problem it's with proper permits to transport Firearm, it took 2 months and 1 day before my trip the permit was still in doubt,,Lori to the rescue

When I flew with SSA through NY we asked the counter person about our luggage and they checked and told us that it was on the plane or at least had made it to their people in the belly of the airport.

This is just a heads up for others that might be flying that they can have the airline check to make sure that the bags have been transferred to the second airline.

Virgin is NOT firearms friendly. British Airways from the states is just as easy as any other airline, for the exception of being required to call more than 72 hours in advance of the flight to confirm with them that you are transporting firearms and ammunition. For some reason, BA seems to be much cheaper than the other options from LAX and the service is great.

With all that is going on, I would recommend you Call Lori....She will let you know the issues associated with each airline and their policies.

In 2013 I flew Delta from Tucson to Atlanta to J'Burg without any issues. This summer, Lori and team set me up on Delta to New York, then SAA to J'Burg and the Cape.

If you use BA to JoBurg or Cape Town Direct no problems other then the 100 pounds for the transfer at Heathrow (BFR). However, if you are transfer to another "BA" flight from South Africa, that's really Comair and they will not transport firearms. Intra Africa will have to be SSA to transport.

I flew South Africa Airlines in August and was very impressed..Good food too.Booked flight through Lori Spears on here

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
