I. My Michigan heated deer blind, a couple minutes before sunrise.

How are you heating it?

I’ve got a couple of the little Coleman heaters that attach to the top of a 1lb bottle of propane that I’ve been thinking might knock the edge off the morning cold… but was concerned the hissing sound it makes might be a bit much…

I’ve also got one of the larger buddy heaters that produces a lot more heat and is quieter…but it’s on the big size for a 6x4 blind in east tx (on its lowest setting it might run me out of there with the heat)..

@mdwest I thought you deserve more than a simple answer. My Michigan “deer house” as my wife calls it is 6’ x 6’ with the floor 8' above ground. It has 4” of hard foam insulation on the roof and 3” on each wall. Located 33 miles north of the center of Detroit, it can get darn cold with the temperature inversion at sunrise.

To make my outside icebox downright livable I use a Mr. Heater brand Big Buddy with a built-in fan. The heater runs on a 20-pound propane tank positioned so the I can turn the tank valve on and off when climbing into or out of the blind. The blind does a good job of insulating any very, very faint noise the heater may make. The fan creates a little more noise but I turn it off when I open windows.

The heater has a pilot light and three levels of heat. The lower two lever are from the left burner and adding the right burner, Level 3, will double the heat. I turn it all the way up when entering an hour before sunrise. After a couple minutes the chill is gone and I turn off the right burner. A few minutes later I reduce the left burner to half throttle which keeps the blind warm enough.

My tinted windows are removable so when I open or remove one or two I increase the heat to Level Two, full on the left side burner.

There is always a danger from affixation from carbon monoxide but... these deer house blinds are not air tight! That stated, I have vents at the top of the walls and crack the windows for fresh air.

Sorry for the delayed response but 40 minutes after posting I have a video-game like time shooting two does running across my field. Then, the work began…

My German home is on the southern foothills of the famous Black Forest, river Rhine is a mere 15 minutes away. On the opposite side of the river Switzerland is located.

When the weather conditions are ideal one can see the stunning Swiss Alps.

Got a visit today by the big guy. He and a decent 4x4 spent the day out back, keeping me off my range, lol.

Out behind the shop this afternoon. The bachelor bunch enjoying the sun. There's 3 other pretty decent bucks in this herd, but they all look spindly when the big guy is with them.

This is a view from the deck/living room of the new retirement house(under construction), I have 10.5 million acres of continuous public land just feet from my door. I can ride a horse to Yellowstone in a days ride from my driveway. I have elk, moose, Mule deer, Antelope, Grizzlies, Black bears, Wolves, Fox, and Coyotes on my property throughout the year. It's been a lifelong dream of mine.
