Very Seldom do we get a DO-OVER - I bought back my Verney Carron Custom Shop XA Azur 600NE

Hello All,

You may remember my post back in 2015 when I bought my very first "BIG BORE" Double rifle. It was a Custom Shop Verney Carron XA Azur in 600 Nitro Express.

Well, shortly there-after, I had Aaron Little build me a Custom 700 NE. That was truly an awesome fun project.

Over the following years, like in the picture above, I displayed my double rifles at various Gun Shows, and I enjoyed the interest they brought from fellow shooters. There are not very many Big Bore double rifles here in Wisconsin. However, after I got the 700ne, no one seemed to pay much attention to the VC 600 ..... so ....... I sold the VC 600. Sadly, I missed not having a 600 so much, that a couple years later I had Aaron Little build me another Custom Double 600 NE. It was a Bernardelli Custom.

Although the Bernardelli Custom was a very nice Double, I always regretted selling the Verney Carron. The Bernardelli just wasn't in the same class as the VC was. It didn't have all the whistles and bells, and no where near the fine engraving of the Verney Carron - I really liked the Bank-Note engraving of the Rhino which was even signed by the Engraver. As many of you had seen, I sold a lot of iron last Fall, including the Bernardelli 600, to purchase my hunting land. So, once again I was without a 600ne ... and I really missed not having a 600.

Surprisingly, and fortunately for me, ... the friend that bought my VC 600 back in 2017, bought it with the agreement that I could have the "first right of refusal" if he ever decided to sell it. Well, that happened this week, and I didn't refuse it. I bought back my Verney Carron 600ne .... for the exact same price I sold it to him for 5 years ago. As I said in my Heading ... "Seldom do we get a DO-OVER".

Welcome home! Glad you got it back! I bought back my first handgun, a Springfield Armory 1911 after a 20 year separation. Always a nice reunion to get an old friend back!

Congratulations

She’s a beauty! Would love to shoot a 600 one day!

Congratulations

The truth is that the engraving is spectacular

That’s a beauty @buckstix!! It appears that your friend really has not shot it much.

Hello yhc,
Thanks for the reply.

Yes, he only fired it about 10 times while he owned it.

Nice to have it circle back. Love the wood and engraving.

Nice time that those doubles come visit Africa.

That’s an incredible rifle sir! Special that you were able to buy it back. I saw one the other day and as a young man dreaming, wanted to know what this exact model in this chambering would cost in the current market? Even an estimated range would be interesting!

Anyone happen to know who the current owner is? Might potentially be in the market for a VC of this size. Thanks!

Glad you got it back, now go hunt with it!

Nice to see and old friend back in the fold.

That is just a stunning rifle. The engraving and that rhino is just awesome!!!
The rhino engraving on my rifle is rare "bank-note detail". If you look close at the enlargement of the rhino engraving, along the right edge center, you can see it is signed by Verney Carron's Master Engraver Helene Gontel.

see more about some of Helene's work here ... although its not 'bank-note detail", its still remarkable ... https://www.africahunting.com/threads/cape-buffalo-engraving-on-double-rifle.3712/

Back After a Long Time – Hello Again!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a member since 2015 but haven’t been active since 2017. Life got busy, especially with building my second business. Still, I’ve kept my passion for hunting and followed things from afar. Now that I have more time, I’m excited to reconnect, contribute, and be part of the community again.

All the best,
ANDY
