Upcoming Moose hunt with .458 350'ers... questions

Besides Africa, I have used various .458's on NA game, deer, moose and bears. I shot this 450 pound boar this spring with a .458 Carbine using Barnes Original 400 SSP's. No reason not to use it on moose.

I dont know that I would use a 458WM for wolf by choice, but irrespective here is the data I can give you.

In my son's 458Win, we have a load that shoots well and he used this load to hunt Sambar deer in Australia. We are loading the Barnes TTSX 300gn SOCOM bullet at 2400fps (its a couple of feet per seconds over that, but I cant remember exactly). Using the JBM ballistics app, I get:

100 yard zero
200 yard -6.9"
300 yard -25.7"

That is actual inches of drop, not MOA. I cant verify these drops as we have never shot the load past 100 meters. Just listing what the calculator tells me. But I have found JBM to be pretty reliable in the past, as long as the inputs are accurate.

I can also say we had good terminal performance on the one sambar we have shot with this load. As mentioned, this bullet was made for the 458 SOCOM, and we are running the bullet a good 500FPS over the intended impact velocity.

Both the Federal 400gr TBBC and Barnes 450 TSX would make half decent factory options for moose.

Both the Federal and Barnes are -7" at 200 yards.
