Unusually good quick snacks

When you feel a bit peckish, fancy something quick and easy that turns out to be a real winner. I am an incurable snacker, here is one I do often:
Spread a generous amount of fish paste (Anchovette or Redro etc) on your buttered toast. Add sliced gherkin and finish off with several shakes of Tobasco. Cut into quarters because halves go too quickly.View attachment 386493

I'm going to have to try the anchovette/redro paste. When I saw this in the morning I was thinking of the sodium bomb anchovies that I have tried here in the states. I looked up the nutritional info on these products and it is more than reasonable.

My favorites:

LIverwurst, onion and plain Jane yellow mustard sandwich (apparently not healthy, only once or twice a year).

Cured meat product, apple, soft smelly cheese (think Limburger or Tallegio) and some crackers.

The above with the substitution of canned seafood in place of cured meat.

Chapulines with fresh fruit.

braunschweigger on summer sausage.

not really quick and dirty, but still pretty quick.

brown about 4-6 ounces of patty sausage until it's crumbly, drop in 2 or 3 eggs, scramble a bit stirring into the sausage, add about a half cup of shredded cheese of some sort, 10 minutes start to finish. topped with Tabasco or Cholula or a salsa verde, pretty danged tasty, and very filling. goes nicely in tortillas.

Adventure.

we're all hunters because of the sense of adventure. whether you hunt a lot or a little, it's still that sense of adventure.

be an adventurous eater. you can do that every single day of the year. try weird stuff. if it sucks, you've got something to laugh about. if it's good, you've got a new fave to add to your monthly rotation. that's a no-lose adventure right there.

Vegemite sandwich. Butter 1 piece bread smear the Vegimite on, fold it in half and eat it .

I like cheese and crackers,
All that other stuff has no appeal to me, I will pass on gherkins, fishpaste, pate, pickles or most any seafood.

There is nothing wrong with cured meats, particularly alongside the cheese, crackers and olives.

I buy Fig Bars by the case. Keep a box in my car, always have a few in a backpack etc.. I have taken them on Safaris. You could say they are part of my EDC. :ROFLMAO:

I make something nearly identical to your recipe, about a dozen at a time and freeze them. Easy thing to microwave and eat going to work.

Pickled quails eggs, buy or make your own. Add a red chilli in the jar to heighten the flavour. Dipping mix is mayonaise with a desert spoon of horseradish and four crushed garlic cloves mixed in. Prepare to be blown away.

speaking my language. there's a Bohemian shop near where I go to shoot long range every month, they have pickled quail eggs and they're fantastic. i started pickling chicken eggs last week. good, but I'm gonna need to find the recipe for their pickling sauce.

A treat when in London is a walk up Jermyn Street, Davidoff and Beretta are at the top end on either corner. That sets the tone for the rest of your interesting amble and as you get towards the far end there is a cheese merchants that have been there since gas lamps lit the street. As you walk in you are assaulted by a most delicious stink, and the chief culprit is Stinking Bishop. Pay for your slice, a box of melba toast and rush back to your hotel room for a trip to heaven.
I like cheeses, I need to travel more I think, London is a long way from here.
Now I need to Google the cheese RedLeg mentioned Emmentaler.

I’m hungry now!

Should I post you some Vegemite? A little goes a long way.
As in my first post you can whip up up Vegemite sandwich pretty quick.

I love cheeses too, another favourite is potted Stilton when if has started to ooze, spread on oatmeal biscuits with a glass of Merlot.

After 4 weeks on drilling rig, or 4 months in ships mess room, first thing for me at home is giant cheeseburger, and a a pint of local beer from glass bottle!!!! It is BASIC resuscitation kit, to achieve basic vital signs!

After a 12 week stint living in a field exploration camp my best kind of snack is a modified ploughman lunch with nice cheddar, pickles, pickled onions, chutney, maybe some pork pie, salty crackers and pastrami

Saltine or ritz cracker, pepper jack cheese, and jalapeño venison summer sausage.
saline or ritz cracker with peanut butter
homemade gorp: m&m’s, peanuts, raisins mixed together, great pick me up

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
