Hunting reports
Africa

I was planning a hunt in Mozambique in July, of this year, but I have been hearing about the rioting and 130 deaths from the unrest. Just wondering what you guys think about hunting over there this summer.

Safari areas will be fine
You are likely looking at one of the Coutadas or Niassa?
You will hear recent stuff here soon in Reply but I hear nothing disruptive.
You will be in a safari area and safe.
Tell the group, however, specifically where in Moz to get better information back

I have spoken to many Moz outfitters. They are not concerned it will impact this season. It is concentrated to the cities. The rural areas mostly support Frelimo, no unrest in hunting areas. You will most likely only be flying into Pemba or Maputo and then catch a charter. The airports will be secure. I wouldn't hesitate to go now let alone in July. I am going back this year.

I’m usually pretty skeptical about newspaper accounts of unrest. There were a series of riots in Ferguson Missouri, about 10 years ago. If you read newspapers and watched television, you would be led to believe that the entire city was on fire. It was actually more like a four square block area. That said the news from Mozambique certainly doesn’t look good. The State Department has issued a warning.

If you decide to go, you should purchase evacuation insurance that includes extraction services if necessary. Global Rescue offers such coverage. There are several others.

Yeah civil unrest in the Mozambican cities
And
Cholera rife in Zimbabwean cities
It’s not Disney world;) lol
^^^^ buy trip insurance for sure ^^^

The area borders Gondarazu, going with Tsala safaris

I would go without hesitation. Definitely get Global Rescue insurance though. I maintain this coverage no matter what. It's good to be aware, but seek out other resources for accurate updates. Sensationalism sells the news. Case in point (although in a military context), I was in a US airbase in Japan back in the '80s at the front gate, when a car drove past the guards. All of a sudden smoke came from the car with a "PFFT" sound' a fart was louder. Next day news reposted a car bomb exploded at the front gate of the air base.

I have spoken to Brandon with Tsala. The Pafuri border crossing is not effected. The area around their camp is Frelimo territory, with no unrest. You will be fine.

If "civil unrest" is a major concern to you, then forget about the whole continent.
Usually, this is confined to urban areas. (As is, many American cities)

Of course, use Global Rescue and consider the mercenary option, if your safari company is, in the least, concerned.

I would just follow the advice of your company.

If they are legitimate, they would not risk a client being put in harm's way.

If the company doesn't give you complete assurance, then cancel.

Stay out of cities
Charter in as close as u can
Definately dont drive from SA to Moz

Unrest or other safety risks can result in great prices.

I booked a trip during the last Ebola flare up I think 2015 ish? We went into Western Africa where is was primarily at. Ebola eventually got into the U.S. with a couple confirmed cases.

We got great hunt and flight prices. Although, when we returned my wife developed a flu with high grade fever. It scared her so we went to the ER. Their protocol then at the height of the outbreak was to ask if she had been to Africa.

Oh boy, did her response freak every one out. Within seconds she was in a positive air flow room and the staff were in positive air suits. She tested negative of course.

Buy a Ripcord or Global Rescue type policy for Evac and extraction. They have Ex SOF medics in JoBerg for a QRF

The reason Ebola got into the US was Obama administration brought it here. A couple of Americans contracted it and they were brought to Emory University Hospital. Close to the CDC headquarters.

Good Day Everyone

I can only speak to our own area bordering Gonarezhou and our own experience.

We have driven up into our area and used the border post through the Kruger National Park at Pafuri into Moz on more than a few occasions during the elections and after the reports of "civil unrest " and as recently as last week.

I can tell you from first hand experience that we have not experienced any unrest or seen anything similar in our area. The borders crossing into Moz is the same as it always was ,no extra security or protocol. The villages are small but it was business as usual and nothing out of the ordinary.

We get day to day reports from our anti poaching team that live in the area and surrounding villages with no reports of unrest only good reports of rain and lots of animal movement.

Our clients that have booked hunts with us will be the first to know if anything changes. We will visit our area and spend time there again long before our season kicks off in Moz.

Best Regards

Rouan

My only trip into Mozambique was a connection through Beira to Quelimane. Massive delays in Beira, along with requests for bribes to clear my rifle. All pretty standard stuff. Rudimentary hotel in Quelimane was perfectly fine. I had the definite impression that if there were unrest in the country, this would not be the best route to take.

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc
