UA 188

Delta flights coming up are pretty full going to JNB the next few weeks but Delta also blocks 100 seats on return to Atlanta because it can not make it with a full load of cargo and fuel. So if they fill all but 100 seats its considered full. A350 just can not handle the distance like the 777 when it was on that route. When the cape town leg comes in play soon it will let the A350 go out totally full since it will be a lower altitude city and shorter distance.

I see UA 188 is cancelled for 4/26 and 4/27. 4/28 is still as scheduled.
This has me starting to worry some as I leave May 17.
Hope they get it all figured out by then.
I was originally booked on Qatar about 4 months ago but needed to change return date and Qatar wanted an additional $3200 for the same business class I had booked just to change return date by 6 days. That’s why Jennifer booked me on United Polaris.

Just be thankful it's not CDG in Paris.
Have been to CDG many times, but never with guns. Did you go thru with guns and have chaos?

Yes, with guns. Air France gate agents were clueless, both in D.C. and transiting through CDG.

Not liking what I am seeing on United’s flight status checker
Shows 188 cancelled for Wed. Still on for Thursday and Friday.
BUT. Check flight 187 return flights and they are all cancelled thru Friday night
Not good. I still have 20 days before departure but already planning if alternate flights are needed.

I’ve been through CDG with my R8 on the way to Cameroon. I used an agent and had absolutely no issues.

Well. Been keeping an eye on this. Looks like UA 188 has departed tonight for Tambo. Although 1 hour and 23 mins late on departure. Maybe this is a sign it will be back to normal within a few days.

Unfortunately our travel agents have no control over gate agents. You got lucky.

what happened? I did get lucky in that the security screening guys at CDG let my passport fall on the floor somewhere and I nearly lost it! I realized I didn’t have it when nearly to the gate and went back and found it on the floor below the conveyor. I gave them a talking to!

I have been keeping an eye on flight status and actually talked to a United Person at customer service today. Looks like UA 188 and 187 are back on track to fly every day again. Sure am glad for those of us booked within the next few days and weeks.

We wait till May 6th in my case.
It was cool meeting you and your dad at JNB. I'm glad you guys made it home, but at least you had some added adventures.

UNITED SUCKS PERIOD. We daparted joberg last night at 8 pm Saturday May 7. Had premium economy booked and had paid more for premier boarding. So in Newark this morning we were told they left some baggage behind in joberg because of weight restrictions. The plane was not near full probably at least 50 seats empty. And guess who's bag was left in joberg that's right mine I've been at customer service service at Newark and on the phone with United. Was told I would have wait til I get to my destination airport in Knoxville TN to follow up on my bags. Someone will be getting their ass chapped when I get to Knoxville. This is ridiculous. Everytime I fly United it's the same ole shit show.

I’ve been listening to a podcast called the journey is the reward. It is about a guy trying to get a million miles on UA. He goes on and on about how bad United is but still flys them! I’m out. Deleted the pod.

Most people purchase airline tickets based on a combination of price, flight schedules and routing. I booked a trip to Seattle for my wife and I for this summer. Actually going to Juneau, Alaska, put will stay a couple days in Seattle. I purchased tickets on United back in February based on great price and great schedule. About a month after the purchase, United sent me a change notice and the schedule went from great to lousy. I spent a half hour on the phone and got a little better schedule at no additional cost.

Today, I received another change notice from United. Schedule changed to a very early departure and then a 5 hour layover in Denver. Any online change wanted to charge me significantly more money, so I phoned United and after another half hour or so was able to reduce the layover to 2 hours.

My trip is still several months off, so I am expecting United to make yet another change.

Flying United to Joburg and back in August. I hope!

I have been keeping track of UA 188 and 187 for that few days. Both have been late consistently in take off times. 188 was 1 hr and 45 mins late last night on departure so that will make 187 that much later leavening Tambo tonight.

I have flown United on international flights in the past probably 8 or ten times with no issues. Last I flew a long flight was in May 2019 from Little Rock to Anchorage with rifle and ammo and had no issues. The last short flight I had with them was last August, Little Rock to Houston to Pensacola, no guns but the flight was total chaos. 3 hours late leaving and had to cancel my rental car. Renewed it out of pure luck once I arrived in Pensacola. Then when boarding a puddle jumper in Houston, to head back to LR sat on the runway more than one hour with faulty air condition. But with all of the trouble you guys are having now days with United I can assure you I will not fly with them again.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
