Unfortunately, other than once for Spanish TV (!) I have never really had a videographer film and edit one of my hunts. But on my last hunt in Mozambique, a young PH accompanied my friend Boet and I on a successful late evening hunt for cape buffalo. This is in the Zambezi Delta "swamp" where two years before we were wading up to our thighs. This year, the ground was like concrete and a charcoal dust of burnt grass covered everything.

We were actually doing an afternoon scout for the next morning's hunt when we spotted several large black shapes a kilometer or more out across the flat. They were all large suggesting a bachelor group of bulls. The stalk required a couple of hours of hiking and crawling to get the wind in our favor - it was quite strong - and to ease into range.

There are two clips. The first is of the eventual shot at one of the two best dugga boys in the group. The second is of the follow up. There are no dramatic charges. The two clips are posted simply to portray a typical buffalo approach, shot and follow up. The rifle is an R8 in .375 with Leica scope and 300 gr A Frame.

The first shot was in the heart, and the second creased his brisket. He went perhaps twenty yards. He measured a 1/4" over 40 inches.

Buffalo Hunt Mozambique

Well crap.

You just need to change the settings on your videos to public share then you can repost them and we can watch. Currently you probably have them as private in the settings

Beautiful buff

yes, it's a simple 16 step process (I think) once the video is uploaded to Youtube. I think you also get asked if the video is okay for children, which for some of the AH audience you might check "yes."

BTW, based on the one photo, that buff is a stud! Congratulations!

Congrats on a good buff, im going to open a can of worms and say pity about the PHs " african " carry method pointing at the trackers head..... once again well done

Congratulations. I was able too open both videos from your post just y clicking on them Thanks for sharing.

Excellent shot sir, that’s how it’s done! Congratulations, an excellent bull. Vey flat and open terrain, what was the distance?

Yes, that’s a very nice buff. Well done. It did seem like a long poke based on the number of steps you took in the “approach“ video. Thanks for sharing.

About seventy yards. We had already crawled over 100 yards from the last bush, and It was impossible to get any closer. The Zambezi floodplain is a different sort of place to hunt buffalo. With no trees or brush, a bit longer shot on buffalo tends to be the rule whether flooded or dry.

Excellent videos, nicely done. What I really found quite impressive, apart from your beautiful Buff, was the demeaner of your PH. That man was calm, and kept a steady, even dialogue with you. No grabbing your arm, no hurried orders, just a nice, calm set of instructions. I could follow a guy like that.

Boet Van Aarve has become a great friend after two safaris wading and hiking around Mozambique. We are the same age, and he was a Rhodesian light infantryman during the war. When things get boring, we can always entertain each other with a funny war story or two. On an earlier hunt, he did a masterful job talking my son onto his first bull.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
