I'm concerned about a long, detailed ad being timed out on AH, but both, EXCELLENT condition, have been listed (in much greater detail) on GI, along with scopes, mounts, dies, brass and some ammo. $3,750 and $3,250, respectively, including shipping. 26" and 22". I visited Paul Jaeger's shop as a kid (to fix my 1st centerfire rifle action-a Win 94 in 30-30. He charged me $12, with a CATCH! That I'd purchase one of his rifles (when not earning $8 weekly in quarters as a paperboy. LOL) So, I made him proud by buying two, many moons later as an adult. Now, it's time to release them into the hands of other true aficionados...The first is a fantastic longer range deer/antelope/varmint/target gun while the second is more a combo deer-bear, elk, moose or big bear gun, but also excellent for African PG. 300 yd target for the 257 and 100 yds for the 35. Many custom touches on each. The 257 rifle and cartridge are shear genius IMO, but the 35 is a flawless, quick-pointing work gun. Neither are heavyweights. 257 barely recoils. Can use either factory ammo or reload the fireformed factory cases once fired. ~8-8.5 lbs w/ scope. See GI ad for more details...I'm simplifying things in advance of retirement, moving, and making room for projects for kids/grandkids.

Two years ago I was in the Anchorage Cabelas. There was a beautiful little Mauser 7x57 in the gun library there that once I laid hands on I was NOT setting it down until it was mine. Now that you mention it, I've gotten quite a few deals from their libraries all over the country!! My 7x57 Ackley Improved I'm going to hold onto for awhile (it's a step up, wood-wise from the ones I've got for sale, but also a newer Win/Montana and just a PERFECT stock from a maker in the West. 'Also a shooter! Not as much of an improvement as the 257 Ackley, but on the heels of a 7 mag, and SUPER accurate. I thought they sold me a dud at decent price when I picked it up...but then we realized someone filed the trigger or sear (but not both.) After installing a Timney (and relieving it just a tad to match the pre-filed sear (now I recall!) it was 100%. Also a Tubbs spring/pin for a bit faster lock time. I love 'em all but can't keep 'em all forever. In the end we ALL Share our best guns....

Yes, I grew up closely affiliated with strong Mauser people. Upon learning about the benefits of CRF, it made so much sense to me that I wondered aloud about what the alternatives were … ‘uncontrolled round feed??’
So I adopted the handle to highlight the oddity of the alternative

My finest and best-shooting (handloads by teen economics) rifles were always Mauser 98 CRFs (Interarms, Whitworth, etc.) w/ 300 Win Mag up first! I should've NEVER gotten rid of that particular one (but always have one.) The Dakota will be up for sale next (painful frown.) LOL I'll replace it w/ a 300 WM i'll be content with scratching up. Many of these fine wood guns I refer to as "TX guns" or "deck guns," open fields w/ bipod guns. I have 2 scratched guns: My childhood 22 Mag and my own 264 WSM Bansner (both scratched by my young son at the time-who is ROUGH on guns, but he does Hunt Hard and has much success. 3 bucks on the ground in neighboring states this season so far! I customized and provided his own guns (I NEVER zoom in on his photos and pretend they look like the day I handed 'em over!) LOL A properly set up (i.e. Jaeger or eq. or DIY correctly) Mauser is tough to beat. TV ads will tell you differently (a la Biden/Harris LMAO!) Sadly, I refer to most factory guns today as "Black Plastic JUNK," and many live up to that. They do NOT care about your shooting, hunting results-Nada excepting your $$$. Here, you Get what you Pay for.

My son was a dentist there then. He quickly whisked me out of there (and several other stores, trading posts) as he had ltd time to show me a bunch of sights (and ultimately was afraid I'd see all sorts of things I loved and hold the tour up!) LOL Pls show me a pic when you get a chance!!! By "little," and the vintage, I'm guessing it's a PJ Utility Sporter just like the 35 I'm selling. It's the pre-3006 by Paul Mauser (essentially copied by J. Browning a few years later!) Many customers selected from numerous different options, so they're not all the same (and as a result very interesting to see All.) I didn't like his early sight/scope options, but luckily I'm "too young" for that. None of my guns featured his (originally) ground-breaking inventions. I believe his nephew Apel went off to begin NECG and PJ's business was eventually sold off to Cabela's or the like (in the late 80s or 90s?)

That is a GORGEOUS rifle ! Sadly the Anchorage Cabelas gun library shut down shortly afterwards, can't hire enough competent folks to keep it open I was told. A damn shame, there is literally nothing on the racks of new firearms which interest me. Just a sea of cheap plastic stocked stuff it seems.

A damn shame, there is literally nothing on the racks of new firearms which interest me. Just a sea of cheap plastic stocked stuff it seems.

Ohhh can you imagine that clearance sale (or they simply shipped 'em off to other libraries.) I've got a 416 Taylor SS Win/HS Precision/Shaw bbl that may have come from AK-or at least, it was built for hunting there (and a steal as it wasn't moving after the season)! 'Have taken it there and Africa-from the Post Falls, ID Cabelas!

Sadly, what comes to mind is a pair of "Lifetime Warranty" Cabelas $1,500 long range HD binos (Mfd for Cabelas by Meopta in CZ with USA offices in FL.) The corporate nit-wits of now (NOT Cabela's Family Business where this S would NEVER happen!) Ass-Pro Shops/Cabela's informed many of us that (their corporate lawyers decided that) a Lifetime of an optic was actually 5 years. LMAO. We went around them, appealed to Meopta (they were FANTASTIC-fixed every single non-warranty warranty issue, as it was THE RIGHT THING TO DO.) Shame on Big Box Wallyworld Outdoors. (Your costs obviously have become too much, such that the customer pays for your big swamp-esque decisions nowadays!) SMH. No longer a customer. Bring back the QUALITY local gun/gunsmithing, archery pro shop, etc. stores to all US towns! We The People liked it the way it used to be. Woke goes broke. And your warranty policies are abysmal (nothing to do with a sacred hunting ground fka Abyssinia that most of us cherish!)
