From Nov 11th to 17th, 2019, I will be in the North of Turkey near Samsun for 5 days of wild boar driven hunt, with the outfitter DHD LAIKA. We will be 7 hunters, hunting wide areas in mid-range mountains, with firing distances from 30 meters to more than 200 meters.

Training started a couple of month ago. On my Blaser R8, I will use a new 300 win mag 65 cm barrel, with a muzzle brake DF2000. The scope will be my Z6i 1,7-10x42 f the South African safaris in 2013 and 2014.
I tested 7 manufactured ammunitions, critera being the grouping at 200 meters (I want better than 1 inch grouping at 200 meters). The selected one is Sologne Klassic Barnes TSX 180 grains. The training ammunition is PARTIZAN PPU 180 grains (3 times less expensive), with a 2 inches grouping and the same impact height than the Sologne Klassic.

Here are 2 videos of training :

Grouping tests in nature at 300 meters and 400 meters with Sologne Klassic Barnes TSX 180 grains

Training at the range at 100 m et 200 m with 4stablesticks Mountain Stick and Monteria Stick

I will bring 3 camcorders with me, of which 2 are waterproof. They will be in "fire and forget" mode on their gorilla pods, filming the shooting areas with big batteries and 64 Gigabits SD cards. I hope to bring wonderfull memories and some nice videos.

I will keep you posted.

Hervé

Wish you the best !

Another video of the training and one great learning of how to install my rifle on the Monteria Stick.

D-3 days. Training with the rifle/scope/ammunition started on sept 28th.
7 ammunitions tested to select the best grouping :

Training ammunition in green : Partizan PPU 180 grains rounded soft nose
Hunting ammunition in red : Sologne Klassic with Barnes TSX bullet 180 grains

Since 6 weeks, I have shot 175 bullets :
- training at the range at 50 m, 100 m and 200 m
- training in open space at 300 m and 400 m
- hunting (stalking and driven hunt), with 7 criters taken at range from 50 m to 210 m (3 young roedeers, 1 wild boar, 3 nutrias)

Lats traing at the range was 3 days ago, at 100 m and 200 m for grouping, and at 200 m with different stick configuration.
With a tripod, 4 shots in 12 seconds :

and with a MountainStick from 4StableStick, 4 shots in 12 seconds :

The MountainStick is simply amazing, I love this stick.
Form this last training, I decided to take one more click in the upward direction on the ballistic touret, at 200 m

That will certainly be a fun hunt. Looking forward to the final report. I also bought quite a lot of PPU ammo for a good price. Planned to use it only for practice. But it was so accurate and developed such great velocities, that I used it on my hunt. The bullets were more fragile than the Barnes, but they still performed well on 150kg sized animals. You are well prepared, and you are shooting very well...........good luck...............FWB

Looks like you have prepared well. Good luck.

The MountainStick is simply amazing, I love this stick.

Would you like to explain some more details? I would like to know name and model.

I am back from Turkey. Hunting, people, organisation, landscapes, food were amazing.
We were 9 hunters, one group of 4 from the Paris area, one group of 4 from the Lyon area, and I was the solo guy.
On 5 days and 10 driven hunts, boars were seen and shot on 8 of the 10th hunts.
I saw dozens of boar (total amount to nearly 100), shot 31 bullets (14 bullets on one single hunt) and killed 8 boars and one fox.
Nicolas, the Nemrod of the group, took 14 boars, 9 in one single day !!
All hunters saw, shot and killed boars.

Here is Day 2 with my big male, 3 shots in 8 seconds from 150 m to 90 m, running full speed. The action is amazing, you will see it shortly on the video, I managed to record nearly all my hunting actions.

Here is Day 3, with 11 boars killed, 9 retrieved.

I will come back with Day by Day report, with pictures and videos.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
