Trophy room - wall colour

Hi guys, so trophy room is a bit of a stretch. It’s more where I do my reloading and have a few mounts but you get the idea. Anyway we were going to paint a few rooms with a solid wall colour at one end. Probably a dark/deep blue.

Has anyone got anything similar? I imagine a white would be the best bet for mounts. Will a dark colour work or make everything look a bit rubbish?

@wildfowler.250 - when I created a 20’ x 20’ with 12’ ceiling Trophy Room I used red oak stained wood panels on every wall - from the floor up 42”, then Sheetrock up to the ceiling. The Sheetrock walls were painted “Hunter Green” with eggshell finish - this is a very classic and dark green color. To off set the dark walls - the ceiling was White with recessed lights to brighten room. I wanted a traditional look of stained wood and Hunter Green walls. I found that all my taxidermy stood out very well on the dark green walls: Ducks, deer, bear, elk, etc.. as well as many framed photos. I’m sure many other colors would work well also. I do Not care for white walls for a trophy room because they are so “sterile” and Hospital like - but they would help keep the room very bright and highlight any taxidermy nicely. It is Your personal choice and hope you Enjoy creating your own “Masterpiece”!

My wife and I put a chair rail around my trophy room and stained it “golden oak”. The walls were originally white but we painted them a tan color called “pecan” if I remember correctly.
It has recessed lights but I need to add some track lighting along the vaulted ceilings.

@Hunt anything - I especially like your Waterfowl & pheasant mounts — very lifelike and difficult to find a taxidermist that can do quality birds…

Neutral pastels are usually best with any walls that will be used for display. If you have higher ceilings, and a bit of exterior light, then darker colors can really accentuate trophies and art. Museums use similar colors which tend to focus the eye on the items displayed.

I chose a fairly dark green - not quite moss - for the trophy room, and several other rooms in the main house. The green worked well with the antique furniture and art we love, as much I love and Mrs Red Leg tolerates, dead fauna on the walls. As it has classically, the green also tends to be representative of the hunt.

Thanks @HankBuck, before Africa was ever on my reality radar I set out to collect every species of waterfowl in the states. I’ve been able to collect all but 3, king eider, Barrow’s goldeneye and fulvous whistling duck. Don’t know if I’ll ever get to the Bering sea for kings but the Barrows and fulvous are a possibility.
My taxidermist only does birds and he his extremely talented.

I like this color. Mine is more of an orange tinted clay color and it's just ok. I've not seen many trophy rooms that are done in dark colors. Must be a reason for that. The mounts pop with a lighter background I think

I'm just starting, don't have the space you do but chose a lighter green and darker wood combo

Have wood paneling up 42 inches in the great room and lower in the basement, where the ceilings are much lower, then a beige color for the walls where the animals are placed. I have cyprus wood for the ceiling in the great room

Thank you. The chandelier was costly, and I fought buying it for a long time but the difference it made was incredible.

My father's trophy room had few windows, was fairly dark, and he had dark walnut paneling on the walls, the animals were hard to see even on the brightest days. I have light colored walls in my trophy room area with lots of natural light, the animals are easier to see and stand out better. I will say that I really like the dark green walls that @Red Leg has in his room, it looks very rich and classy looking to me.

Thanks folks. Sounds like dark green seems to be a common theme if going for a solid colour. Might be the case that I’ll have to improve the lighting in the room if I’m going with the colour the other half likes

I just picked up the colors for mine went with a light sage color. I tried to stay away from a darker shade just to not drown out darker animals on the wall.
