Trophy Room Build after 45 years of hunting

Thank you for the kind words @MarkB. I also appreciate your confirmation that I chose a good area as the Canadian Moose has been my nemesis while pursuing the NA 29. This will be my 4th attempt and I truly hope to complete the quest this year.

Rest assured I will post a hunt report on the Tahltan hunt.
Our moose population has taken a dramatic drop over the last decade or so, I know some outfitters have stopped offering their moose hunts as chances have plummeted. But the area you choose should have little FN or resident hunter stress. Those in there are after LEH animals, moose too hard to get out of vast roadless area. I will be looking for swamp donkey in an area bordering your hunt area. But need trail for moose extraction. My guess is you will do well. I would do as your guide says as he will know the population, size expectation and chances/opportunities best.

I still regret today not shooting when a guide/PH told me too.

Best of luck and take us along later with that report and more room pics.

Thanks

Thanks for the insight @MarkB the outfitter Jim Peterson said all his hunters had opportunities on mature bulls, two passed as they were looking for book moose.

I most definitely will listen to my guide as I’m not hunting for the book but hunting for my moose!

Likewise, good luck on your quest for the swamp donkey, I love hunting those big bastards!

I got back to the ranch last night and checked in on the project today.

The rock panel is completed for the mountain, now it’s down to the tedius work filling cracks and painting the rock for the variety of habitats.

Dang, no wonder I couldn’t find any expanding foam this weekend! Seriously that’s going to be one heck of a fine room!
Using industrial size can of spray foam!

Can't wait to see the finished product.

Just got a 2 gl foam kit from amazon, can't imagine foam requirement for a mountain, let alone the carving for detail and sanding. Looks awesome. What an outstanding accomplishment.

Any new update on the construction?

The habitat work on the mountain is slow and tedious at this point. The taxidermist team said they’ll be working on it the next four weeks.

The mason’s started the fireplace earlier this week. I left the ranch to be with my family for Easter and will head back down there next week.

Here’s a couple of progress pictures of the fireplace before I left.

That would be great @Mort Hill, I look forward to enjoying a cigar with you in the new trophy room and sharing some stories as it will be a smoke welcome environment!

Book it! Look forward to it!

Did someone say cigars? Well shoot, I'm in. :ROFLMAO: I believe some Padron 1964 Aniversarios would be in order for this epic celebration.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
