This October I will be traveling to Mozambique to hunt buffalo with my 15 year old son. Mom and brother will be staying home on this trip so it he will be just the two of us traveling. From my research and talking with the outfitter the only things I will need to carry is an affidavit signed by my wife that she has given consent for the travel, as well, an unabridged birth certificate and passport.

For those who have travelled with there minor children is there any other information I should know? We will only be transiting through Johannesburg with a 3 hour layover and all our bags and guns checked through from home to Beira.

Thanks.

If for your connecting flights are delayed or cancelled in or outbound or for whatever other reason you may find yourself in need to clear customs in SA I would recommend being prepared to do so.

Go to: SOUTH AFRICA Hunting Information: https://www.africahunting.com/threads/south-africa-hunting-information.14223/ and scroll down to the section called: South Africa Regulation for Traveling with Children.

You can also check out: New South African Regulations for Traveling With Children: https://www.africahunting.com/threa...egulations-for-traveling-with-children.16075/.

Brilliant information.
With all the human trafficking going on. These things have become a real issue now.

We will be leaving in about 30 days to Zimbabwe / South Africa. :D

My 2 kids will be traveling with my wife and me. Here's the twist - they have Japanese passports and Japanese-language documentation (I'm American). On the Japanese-language website from the SA gov't, there doesn't seem to be any requirement regarding in which language the birth certificate is written.

Does anyone have any experience using documentation in any language other than English or Afrikaans?

I would recommend you contacting the South African Embassy in Washington DC and the Embassy of Zimbabwe in Washington DC:

Could you get a translation done by the Japanese embassy? If you could and it was certified by the embassy you should be ok. If the customs official cannot read the documents, he/she may not deal with it well.
I have had to do that for documents that were in Afrikaans from South Africa, translated by the rsa embassy into English for some government departments here in Zambia.

I returned to the States yesterday from an eight-day hunt in South Africa with my 14 year old son. I had the notarized consent to travel from my wife, as well as official version of his birth certificate and certified copies of my, my wife's, and my son's passports. This worked fine and we had no problems at immigration entering the country. They dodo not check as we were leaving the country.

Good luck and have a great trip.

Thanks for relating your experience. The translation thing is a pain and an added expense, but could be worth the time / hassle saved.

I will do that. Thanks for the links.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
