I saw a few calves ( cow type) brought into a tagging station by out of state city sports when I was a kid. I don't think there is much resemblance of a Holstein calf to a deer but---.

when I was a youngster dad got a job trying to salvage what meat he could off a flock of sheep that had been shot by jackers( spotlighters)

You are perfectly right.
But I'm not talking about the fake news above. I'm talking about someone who is humped over with weight carrying out a rack strapped to the back of their pack, in what will most likely be brushy terrain. Most experienced hunters I know will do what I have described, because as you have noted, people hunt who really shouldn't be.

no its happened several times I know of once to a cousin of mine. My cousin was shoot in the upper thigh and lower back with a .410 ironically enough by a trespasser.
