Tourist killed by herd of elephants at Sirheni Bushveld Camp in Kruger

The sexist attitude toward men from women doesn't stop there. Several men have been sued by women they helped or rescued.

Horrible things will inevitably happen to women because men are no longer willing to put themselves at risk. An accusation of sexual harassment or sexual assault can get a man fired from his job, end his marriage, etc., even if he is totally innocent.

A hundred years ago men would have made every attempt to protect another human being from death, even if it meant they themselves might be killed. At a minimum, they would have felt horrible for the victim, and expressed that sentiment publicly. No more.

If a man told the wrong woman that African wildlife may be dangerous, he could be accused of "Man-splaining".

Like it or not, a century of Western feminism that punishes men for "Toxic Masculinity" was bound to lead to this.
Preaching to the choir, brother. One reason I so enjoy working from home is so I don't have to deal with any of that. If it can be helped, I'm never working in another office again.

3 or 4 times a day, I walk out of my office, downstairs to my wife's office, give her a hug and kiss and grab her ass and boobs. She enjoys the harassment.

Franco.
Until recently, I also had a mother with dementia
Sorry-but I can't expose people like that to additional dangers.
Everyday life is bad enough.
Foxi,

Well said.

There are no words...

When I stayed at Old Drift Lodge, we were warned never to get out at night. After dinner we were escorted to our tent cabins by a guy with a gun. During those walks we encountered a leopard and multiple hippos. Needless to say, a lot of elephants were around as well.

Same thing at Hwange, after dark if you need to go to/from the main area you need to ask for an escort unless you are booked at the cabin next to it (I had requested that for that reason).

If I could offer one piece of advice to the planet, it would be this: Don't marry for looks alone, and I'll tell you why. In a few years, when Barbara's boobs start sagging, she can get plastic surgery, have them lifted, move the nipple wherever. You can actually go to a titty bar, pick out a set of titties and say, "I want those titties on that woman." If her belly gets too big, she can get a tummy tuck and have a belly like a cheerleader. If her vision goes bad, you can have LASIK surgery and have 20/20 vision. If her hearing goes bad, they can install a device in her ear that will give you hearing as clear as it was the day you were born. But let me tell you something, folks: You can't fix stupid. There's not a pill you can take; there's not a class you can go to. Stupid is forever. -- Ron White

Well, or one can do what I have done several times in the past. Upgrade every 7-9 years for a new 23-year-old, then one does not need to worry about beauty fading. Women are a renewable resource. Not to mention good looks do not equate to stupidity. My last wife had graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCI.

My dad at his 60th wedding celebration joked with me. He said: "Son, if I was like you, I'd be on my 6th wife."

We live in an age of breakdown. Everything is turned upside down. Since childhood, people have been taught a misconception about the world around them. Children watch cartoons about Winnie the Pooh, thinking that a real bear is not much different from him. And then we read horror stories on the news about how a bear at the zoo tore off the hand of a girl who came too close to the cage.

Of course, human stupidity is incurable. And there's nothing you can do about human carelessness. But we must admit that people invent a lot of problems for themselves. Everywhere we talk about safety: do not spill hot coffee on yourself, be careful with electricity, quit smoking… But at the same time, there are no normal educational films for travelers who would be told about the dangers posed by wild animals. And if there are such films, then they are hardly often shown to people.

So it turns out that even an adult who has been stuffed with fairy tales all his life sees a lion and believes that if he behaves calmly, then this is necessarily a Cowardly lion from the land of Oz. And then it turns out that the lion is not from Oz, and is not at all cowardly. Oh my God, what a surprise!

Our “Principles Of Forestry” Textbook in the University of Peshawar (1967 batch) had the following quote at the end of the book:

Love wildlife but always be on your toes around them.

We had a tourist couple here in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, who found & picked up an Asian Sloth Bear cub in order to take a selfie with it in 2022. What they didn’t realize, was that the sow was nearby. The only thing left of the young man’s head when the forest guards found him… was fragments of skull & brains. They were able to save the life of the young lady, but now she needs to take all of her meals through a feeding tube for the rest of her life.

In todays world do you think it would do any good?
It would do loads to shut down the lawsuits like the one filed against the company who had that woman killed by a hippo.

I would also have a international Darwin Award competition specifically for people who are killed by animals due to their own stupidity.

Several years ago doing a tv show in Vegas the white tiger that chomped Roy was on the set and everyone was petting him. My friend asked me if I was going to pet him also. I said not a chance and my friend but he is tame. My reply was not tiger is tame, he just doesn’t know he’s a tiger yet.

Not the same thing but in our bush camp we had visitors most nights; elephants and hyenas. I was the only client and would stay by the fire pit late into the night with my PH, neither of us had guns. Pitch black when heading to my tent a fair piece away. Wasn't long before the camp settled down and the visitors came.

1Samuel 17 34,35

34)And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35)And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

I grew up in Sunday School. Before there was ‘round the clock Disney. For my money, it doesn’t get any better than David, Daniel, Joshuah and Jesus. In my opinion, God is pretty clear on his wild creation and mankind’s dominion over it. Call me kooky.

There should have been a safety statement or general camp restrictions, do's, don'ts...something if the camp had no fences.

The two camps I have stayed at inside Kruger had warning signs everywhere. We enjoyed the bar and restaurant. And had drinks in our room so there was no reason to stroll around with Apex animals.

Great posts in this thread. Keep em’ coming. Happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

If the account regarding dementia is true, it breaks my heart. Caring for someone with dentia is beyond challenging.

Kruger can be a dangerous place. The concentration of animals that will smash you or eat you is unrivaled.

It doesn't get much stupider than that ?
@Foxi - I do Not agree, a bit harsh. This was a Tourist and Unless specifically told Not to walk around at night AND “why” its just a mistake and fatal consequence resulted. I’ve read enough on this forum where very experienced AH Hunters and PHs made mistakes (or just bad luck) — and are injured or killed…none of them were “stupid”.

If this is a true account of what happened, it is indeed both tragic and sad.

Before I get crucified for my previous comments regarding this event, I stand by my statement regarding the result of my action causing harm to myself or others.

My wife and I have cared for 3 family members with dementia. It is not easy and requires 100 percent attention. It can be exhausting. It is a situation with an acceptable failure rate of zero.

The risks of a dementia patient wandering off are ever present. Care facilities have locked doors, in home care requires round the clock monitoring, 24 hour live in help is the norm.

The patient's life is in your hands, your acceptable failure rate is zero. You do not place that person in any situation with a potential for harm.

I am sorry for the woman; I would have some serious questions for the family
I am thankful we have medical assisted suicide up here now. I see no sense in putting that burden on my family. It is a courageous decision and the right one under those conditions. Very hard for family too but relatively speaking exponentially less hard on them than the alternative. Hopefully it never comes to that but we are prepared if it does.

I cannot imagine the benefits of taking someone on safari who can't remember what she had for lunch .... while she's eating it. Doesn't make sense to me. Ruined everyone's trip. For what?

If that's your office routine, I bet she's glad you're working from home! :D

I guess your mom had all the money? My dad didn't raise me to treat women like trash to be taken to the curb regularly. That would be my trashy ex who I believe is on husband number four (maybe five) with countless extracurricular activities. She's left a trail of kids who similarly have wrecked lives with messed up children of their own. But hey if that makes her happy ...

@skydiver386 I gotta assume you are Not employed in a large Corporate culture — you are just too “direct & blunt” for today’s Ultra Sensitive generation. It’s very true that men are now readily sued for every little thing “real or imagined”.
I don’t think it’s gotten so bad that pulling a Woman from the “jaws of a hippo” would be construed as Sexual Harassment or discrimination - unless you called her by the wrong Pronoun, or implied she was fatter then the Hippo etc..
