I am wondering if anyone who is more familiar with SCI and Rowland Ward can post the top ten or twenty bobcat skull scores from those two sites. I have looked and it seems like I can find the minimum scores for Bobcat, but I can't find the tables of records for the top ten or twenty scores.

From what I can tell, these seem to be the main two organizations who keep records on bobcat skull scores.

Thanks in advance.

The minimum score is 7”
#1 is 11 6/16
#20 is 9 5/16

SCI

Any chance someone could post a screen capture of the tables of SCI and Rowland Ward? Or a link to where they might be available?
Thanks

I can when I get back home later this evening

One of the great benefits to joining SCI is you have instant access to the records. IMO it is inexpensive and a great help to conservation.

Is that the reason I can't find the records online? You need to be a member to see them? Is it also true for Rowland Ward, or are those records available online somewhere?

I have not been all that interested in scoring or record books. I am very glad that people are though, because I think it is important to have a metric to know what is quality and mature and for historical purposes as well as conservation. Sometimes I think I should enter animals I have that would qualify, but I go back and forth on it.

Are the Rowland Ward listings only listed in books? I couldn't find any tables online for Bobcat, but same as you, I had seen there was a minimum score listed like you posted.

Not sure @Sabre just trying to help, I have seen online full details for some African Game so I think it is available.

With the SCI list I suspect you might need to be a financial member, which I'm not at the moment ?

A note, I haven't listed any animals on either, I have a few that would go in, including a RW #1 Brown Hyena or at least tie it.

But I note them (it was part of my testing) & really only consider the RW & try to get animals that are Minimum RW, then you know you have a quality head, SCI just needs it to be a mature representative specimen head as minimum .

I agree. I like to know because I want to know if an animal is a good mature representative animal. Which makes me happy groups exist where people care about it so strongly in order to document it and keep a history.

I have many animals that would never make a record book and made me exceptionally happy to harvest. I will always try to look for the biggest or most mature representative I can find, as most of us tend to do. But it is definitely not a requirement for it to make it into a record book to make me happy.

I cut off the hunter's name as I didn't feel that was needed info. OR means Overall Rank and MR means Method Rank used such as rifle. bow, pistol etc Example, #3 on OR but #1 in MR means it was is 3rd best for all entries and #1 in another category such as bow probably. Sorry for the Mansplaining

Interesting that #1 and #2 are from the same ranch. There is no High Fence/Low fence categories for bobcat, just one category.

Correct. You have to be a SCI member to open the Record Book listings online.

You got me interested so I pulled out my biggest BC skull and it's 8 14/16". Just squeaked into Gold and would be tied with 21 other people for #27 OR. I have another big one in the freezer but it hasn't been cleaned yet. Maybe I'll pull it out soon and check it. I might be sitting on a world record

It's funny you said "sorry for the mansplaining". Because I had pulled up the table first and I thought, what the hell does MR stand for. So, I'm very grateful for the mansplaining :)

So here is what prompted this question:
I have seen quite a few bobcats, but I had never shot one of my own. I got one this year that as soon as I walked up to it, it was instantly obvious to me that it was one of the biggest ones I had ever seen. And its head seemed huge to me, easily the biggest head I've seen on a bobcat.

On a different hunt this year, shortly after I got my bobcat, I talked to a guy that said he had killed close to 2,000 bobcats (trapping), he was not making it up, he was an avid trapper with pictures to prove it. We were discussing how most people over estimate the weights. He mentioned that he weighs all of his bobcats and told me the biggest one he's killed and how few of them truly ever go over even 32lbs. Granted, he was in the south, where they are smaller on average, but they are certainly constantly overestimated in the north as well.

The largest one he had killed out of all of those over many years was only half a pound more than the one I had shot. I showed him the picture of mine and he couldn't believe how big it was. I got to thinking that maybe I should measure the skull and see where it stood with RW and SCI. But I am not a member of either.

Well I’m sure we’d like to see it to lol !
