The photo is from a thread where someone was trying to scam AH members.

I playfully photographed a bunch of bananas placed on that day's newspaper as an example of how to show your goods for sale were not from some old Internet webpage.

Some sellers write their Moniker and date on a piece of paper and include that in the photo of their goods.

Photos, good clear photos, and an introduction about yourself including trader history on other sites will go a long way to verify that you are one of us and not a scammer.

One may also offer to provide their phone number via Private Message. Two minutes on the phone will eliminate 99% of the wannabe gun scammers.

Welcome aboard and good luck!

The combination of bananas and that picture on the newspaper seems ironically fitting for what is probably a scammer's thread. ;-)

I guess we all could resist the urge to call out any “potential” scammers, thieves, scum of the earth no good POS crooks that try to sell stolen goods on here too early in the post?

2 Problems:

1. They may be legitimate new members and their first posts may just coincidentally be legitimate items for sale.

2. One of our members may fall for the scam before we bust or tip off the no good motherless f^ck that’s trying to fence our hard earned rifles and ammo.

**Apologies if I offended any one with the use of the term “no good”…

Unfortunately, the photo and newspaper isn't a guarantee and the scammers are on to that m.o.
A phone call and offer to buy in person will shake out the scammers.

I once got scammed by someone using a hacked account.
The item for sale was offered at a good price.
The person offering it had a long history of posts.
Trouble was that the account was temporarily in use by someone else.
There went my money!
I really like to talk to sellers for any item costing over a couple hundred dollars.

That sucks!

I recently took a chance on a relatively new member who had .375 H&H ammo for sale. I communicated with him through text and email, then followed up with a phone call. He ended up being an interesting guy with a good deal on ammo. Great seller and we had a nice chat!

It just takes a little due diligence to satisfy the requisite need to confirm you are dealing with legitimate sellers… This particular seller also offered enough background (Social Media) info to quickly vet him as trustworthy.

ok I'm new to this and I'm not really sure how to do this but I'm real and the rifles are real. I've been an aficionado of well-built blued Steel and high-quality walnut. If you are interested and are a buyer who is truly interested and wants to correspond please send me your phone number and area code and I will set up a time with you to facetime with you into real time verify. price is now 8263
