Thoughts on this 375 H&H?

You’re on the right track here. The custom sporter jobs on old military rifles are very hit or miss. You may get lucky and score the best rifle you’ve ever had for the price, or you may just end up getting to fix someone else’s mistakes. It takes some experience with looking at these and absolutely in person inspections to know.
I would trust the gun sellers at Walmart more than those at Cabelas…
As for the newest “innovative” designs, they bring nothing to the table in my opinion, sacrificing quality and tradition for cheapness, while advertising that cheapness as utility.
From what I'm reading modification to big bore CZ 550 is pretty much a prerequisite before they cycle properly. The military 98 Mausers are certainly strong enough actions (late WWII German production was iffy). My postwar Czech vz.24 turned out very well converted to 404J and that is by all accounts a trickier conversion than 375 H&H. I posted videos of me loading and cycling a full magazine. Flawless and slick as glass. Look for 98 Mauser with 3-position Model 70 style safety. Anyone putting that upgrade on their build project will be more likely to have feeding rails, loading ramp, and follower properly tuned for 375. But again, if you are interested in buying a second hand rifle, ALWAYS request vendor send you videos of the gun being fully loaded and then all cartridges cycled out. Do this no matter what make or vintage rifle.

Any ideas which pivot or quick disconnects work best on Mod 70s?
Friend of mine was able to get a New Haven Stainless 70 .375 off of GB for $2K a couple of months ago.

We mounted a Leupold VX5i 2-10x44 fire dot with 30mm Warn QD rings and all in he’s got $3,250 in the rifle and he’s got a rifle I’d feel confident hunting anything with.

I'd pass on a .375 H&H rifle without iron sights.

I've taken a couple of African animals with a post 64 "push-feed" Winchester Model 70 in . 375 without a hitch.

I bet if Tikka came out with a .375 H&H (push feed) with iron sights everyone would love it!

A muzzle break, is an absolute "no-go" for me.

If it can be taken off and replaced by a suppressor, great!

If it can be taken off and replaced by a metal sleeve, that's OK too.

I'm 60, and luckily, have had no hearing loss. I practice with hearing protection, but don't use it when hunting.

My father was in an artillery unit in the U.S. Army in the late 50's and early 60's. They used no hearing protection (just told to keep their mouths open!). He's almost 89 and can, surprisingly, still hear just fine.

My 27 year old son is concerned about hearing loss. He uses a suppressor on almost everything.

Im thinking about a Mod 70 Safari Express or Alaskan. Seems like even the new ones are great rifles. Would like to compare them side by side if possible.

I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
