Thoughts on a "Bergstutzen" O/U-two different calibers in the same barrel set, 9.3x74R/6.5x57R

I have been informed that 22" set of barrels was ordered, made and the order cancelled.....the calibers are 9.3x74R/7x57R....

I am negotiating. My only concern is the 22" barrels would have preferred 24" myself

if the price is right......i could live with a shorter barrel. ;)

Still busy with this idea.....
Currently in discussion regarding 9.3x74R/7x57R which they will do and then extra set of barrels in 20ga 3" with a 22 Hornet insert......just wish they had it in 12ga shotgun barrels......20ga is available here but 12ga more so....

I let the same combination in 22' barrels go as I want 24" barrels....

This combination pared with my 500 Jeff would cover all my needs....

Keep in mind, not every action can handle the pressure of insert barrels.

.22 Hornet is no match, but 6,5x57R or 7x57R can be.

Have a competent gunsmith that mounts the insert, and guarantees durability of the action.

In CIP countrys, alternations like this have to be tested in the proof house.

Unless they have an adjustable comb how does the stock work with scoped rifle barrels vs shotgun barrels. I would think the comb height would be too high for the shotgun barrels if it is made for scoped rifle barrels.

6.5x57R although a great caliber is too small for legal use on most game here therefore I prefer 7x57R....

My idea was to have the stock made to fit shotgun/open sight(ghost right rather than express) and then have a add on leather fitted to the stock with padding to the right height for the scope. Easy removeable of course attachment similar to QD scope mounts. If properly molded to the stock should resolve that issue

I am now narrowing this down to

9.3x74R/9.3×74R 24 inch barrels with qd scope mount
12ga/7×57R 26 inch barrels with qd scope mount

Has to be 12ga I have no use for a 20ga....

So Krieghoff is out, VC is out

Heym, Merkel and Antonio Zoli is in....help me decide....

I like my Zoli a lot!

i suspect you will too. try to shoot it first if you can,

don

I have managed to track down a Blaser BBF 9.3x74R/6.5×57R fitted with a Swaro scope I think it is 2.5 to 10 x 42...

Negotiations are underway....

Also found a K95 but it is in 6.5x55 Swede and I would buy it if it was 7x65R.......

It is a BS 97, two triggers....

The perfect German PG rifle set would be a Bergstutzen 9.3x74R/7x57R for all Bushveld pg and a Kipplauf 7x65R with another barrel in 6.5x57R........I could not imagine a better pair....

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
