I’ve been reloading for just north of 45 years and still use some of my original equipment. I’m playing with some hyper-accurate toys, so I decided that it was time to upgrade in some key areas. Case prep and powder scales were the first on the list.

I refuse to use the new bullets designed to explode on impact, aka Berger, as I think that their approach to terminal ballistics is insane. Hence, I’ve been on the hunt for long range bullets with a better approach to terminal ballistics. The group above was shot with Nosler 6.5 mm, 142 gr AccuBond LRs. Unfortunately swift hasn’t gotten into the heavy for caliber bullets (a 6.5 mm, 145 gr Scirocco would be awesome!).

I have yet to loose any game to a Berger bullet. I understand you stance, just know many animals have fallen to them. Everyone has their own take on them. IMHO they work and the work well.

I’m glad they’re working for you. I’m old school. I want a bullet that holds together and drives through. To me, a bullet designed to fragment is waiting for one big bone to cause a very bad day.

For what it’s worth, a good friend is a leader in the long range game. We have a standing disagreement on terminal ballistics. He loves Bergers.

Seems to me that scale accuracy is less important than repeatability. If you find a charge of XX.XX grains of a specific powder gives you good results, it’s not really important if that charge is really XX.XX or a tad more or less. What is important is that the scale is consistent and you get the same weight reading every time.

Agreed. This setup throws to +/- 2/100ths of a grain every time. Something I could never do with a balance beam or measure. It has shrunk my 100 yd groups on the 6.5 from sub 1/2” to one hole. I am getting 1/2” at 300 yards if wind is not a factor. This is a Coues rifle, so I have to realistically be prepared to shoot 550 to 600 in field conditions. I know this rig could hit a deer much further out, but that is of little interest to me. I want to be prepared for the max cross canyon shot, nothing more.
