Thinking about a 405 Winchester

Well my vote is for all us 405 shooters get together and sing a VERY off key joyous song to the stars around a fire somewhere in the world:D and shoot a number of kritters

Why would anyone want such an old cartridge and rifle design? I have two 1895 405s and one double:

They are fun! And easy to shoot and have taken everything from pronghorn to Cape buffalo.
A hand loader can use bullets from 210 to 400 grains. My 1895 and Simson double both shoot 400 grain Woodies at 450/400 velocity.
Great rifles in legendary caliber.

Not sure about the fire, but in May some of us will be doing that down West of San Antonio while hunting exotics. I will be using my Simson .405.

The more I read and hear about the 405 Win. makes me want to get my 444 Marlin out of the safe and start shooting that thing. I've had it for probably 20 years or more and have never even loaded it. It's not like I've been ignoring it on purpose or anything, it's just that the right situation hasn't arisen yet for me to start working with it. Years ago we were toying with the idea of a bison hunt and I figured that was a good excuse to purchase a 444, well the bison idea got put on hold and the whole project went forgotten. I think I'll dig it out and maybe take it along on next years bear hunt, should be good medicine for that.

You need a black bear hunt indeed

Great story in latest Sports Afield about a bloke with a Winchester .405 hunting a fantastic buffalo in RSA!

I'm not sure of the attraction of number 1s, don't float my boat. However, in an original or repro 1895 in 405 would tickle my fancy...

Scrumbag,
You mean an unfired Deluxe 1895 .405 like this one in the back corner of my safe?

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
