I arrive on African soil on June 21 and watch those stars set on August 4. So 45 days by my sleep deprived addled brains math.

You save on reduced airfares!

I hate the plane ride a lot.
Being of a small 6'7''/ 202cm frame you can imagine just how well any plane seat fits.

I figure you should at least do one day on the ground for every hour in the air.

Excitement helps you immensely by initiating distraction and denial that you are on a plane.

I may have worked a little bit, but I won't be amassing Elephant trophy fees either.

If it really comes down to an emergency, I can work from Africa. Not if I can help it though.

The sign of a true Canuck......25c is to warm......you have to find winter somewhere. This sounds like a wonderful hunt. I know you will give us some great hunt reports. What are your taxidermy plans?

I have always liked your planning and details. I fully agree that if you fly to Africa it's almost a crime not to stay 2 weeks! And when you get home the first response I have is "this is not Africa" and I usually slide into a deep depression for a month or two and then wake up to reality. BTW, you are ruined the rest of days hunting at home...because it sucks compared to Africa.

After this winter I might melt if it hit 25C.
8C here today, it will be warmer in Namibia.
I can certainly manage the 23C highs and the -2C nights.

IF I am so lucky as to actually get these trophies.

My wife announced her desire to have the Spotted Hyena skull Euro mount.
She has a spot picked out for it.
The pressure is on.

If that was not incredible enough, she started in about how cool a Hippo skull was. :shocked:

I am planning our draws for local hunting right now before I leave. It will not be the same, but damn, it is hunting.
There is a world class Whitetail waiting for us to go after him again.
He skirted behind us when we tried to cut him off. Smart critter that deserves my whole attention.

Then that Moose with the bow...

Taking two rookies out for their first deer this fall.

I can still get excited here at home. But, hunting Africa sure beats your standard deer hunt.

I can not imagine short trips. Only in the case of emergency fixes.

I really can't get excited about WI hunting again after Africa, it's a little different in Canada. I thought 10 years ago of moving there and becoming a citizen. I thought the hunting was that good. No, regrets about it. Life is a bowl of opportunities, I chose different options.

Sounds like a great anniversary present. It's great when the wife buys into trophies around the house. I know you know this but don't let them over boil the small skulls. You have a lot of great animals on this list. There will be tons of great stories to share. Besides photos with the hunting reports you should show us pics of your trophies when you get them back. I just reformatted a 1TB external drive to save the pictures and video onto. I also ordered another after I saw the size of some video I took last time. 3.5 GB for 30 minutes of raw recording.

I hope to have enough space to absorb a lot of information in digital format and with my eyes, skin, nose and taste buds.

Thanks. It is going to be exciting. This trip has morphed repeatedly. I have attempted to take it as it comes on this one. It has certainly been a useful philosophy.

Permits for Botswana are still in the works. One little detail, then the next, etc.

There are a couple of days actually wide open, waiting for another opportunity. We'll see what comes.

Walked for seven hours each day on the weekend with a couple of breaks.
Good start to some practice for stalking. By no means am I marathon ready, but at least I can walk.

I think we have finally emailed enough copies of documents to satisfy the various governments.
If not, I'll meet them in person and sort it out in a border clash.

Got my RSA SIM card so I can remain in contact. Vodacom has a package deal on right now for Data 20G for 500R. I could "tether" all day long and stream video with that. Too bad that it has an expiry before I can possibly use it. Expires before I even hit the country. Maybe they will make another offer.


Two more sleeps. Wednesday I am off and here we come Namibia. Ozondjahe look out.
