The One Piece of Gear You Didn’t Know You’d Need in Africa

I get Doxy, Cipro, prescription imodium and malaria medications for all trips from my GP

Speaking of stomach ailments…

I used a product called DiaResq when I was in Kenya and got the Thamalakane two-step. Sorted my guts after a single dose and I was back on my feet in under an hour. I’ll never travel without it now. Usually geared toward kids, but it’s awesome.

Immodium AD...I take a couple at the beginning of the trip and have a few extra if needed. It settles any issues with travel food/drink and lets me hit the ground running.

Medical sticking plasters, the antiseptic impregnated sort. Prevents minor wounds from becoming infected and creating issues. Put a few in your day kit.
A pair of long shoe laces, to tie things, form a hat hold down or even replace a broken boot lace.
A little epsom salt to put in warm water to disinfect and soak scratches.

My trusty canvas hat (Rouge), long safari jacket with cartridge loops...I wear it with nothing under..its cool and comfy, leatherman in the belt. Shorts only when the heat is unbearable. For boots I have a pair of british army issue tropical boots, part canvas the rest suede..very happy with those.

Antiseptics..? In the bush you improvise..a buddy tripped and smashed his forehead in camp..nasty wound with sand and dirt. No antiseptics...but we are always stocked with Gordons gin.. :Cigar:

It worked very well..

A “JASE” kit
Augmentin, Doxycycline, Ciprodloxacin, Metronidazole, Azithromycin

A quick online questionnaire and a doctor reviews your answers and your antibiotics are mailed to your door.
Many doctors won’t prescribe prophylactic antibiotics just in case for trips anymore.

This is what I would suggest as well, including an Epi pen.

Yeah big problem with over use..now they don't work on a lot of crap they used to .....the gremlins are becoming very resistant or totally resistant now to some of even the strongest antibiotics...not great

All great things to take on a safari, I take these items and when I depart Africa I leave the antibiotics behind. You also mentioned a headnet, I have that and a neck gaiter, those damn mopani flies can drive me mad, especially when you are taking a 2-3 hour break for lunch in the heat of the day!

its nice to take a little 30 second break to get all of the grime and filth off of you before getting back into the bakkie after spending the previous hour inhaling red dust and getting covered in sweat while wandering through the bush

@mdwest dave didn't take you for a girls blouse..... :P Gorgeous:..

A lighter to light up my cigars. Trying to use matches to light up a cigar in windy conditions is not cool. :ROFLMAO:

This is one that I would bring a few along , usb charging but it has strong light aswell as some other nifty bits and very small .

You guys should check out the common and severe side effects of Cipro before using it.
Especially those of us at a more vintage age.
I am not a medical professional but highly recommend replacing the Cipro with another antibiotic. The Bush is hardly the place I would want to experience problems from side effects.
