The big, bad 375... isn't?

Always felt my 375H&H was far less abusive then my 7mm Rem Mag, definitely less then my 300Wby. The 375 is more of a shove while the 7mm RM and 300Wby are a sharp smack. I used my 375 H&H for whitetail hunting for years. Far less meat damage because the bullets are heavy jacket, controlled expansion. You can barrel roll a big buck at 300yds and not lose both shoulders like I would with the 300Wby.
What load did you use for whitetail? I plan to take a few with mine.

Finally somebody with some sense in the world! There's no tracking involved either. None of this silly the deer ran seventy yards and expired. More like the deer skidded to a stop and piled up in a heap.

Great discussion, gents. I’m reading each one and still learning, after years of having our same interests.

Only Girl Scouts’ thin mint cookies are more addictive.

375 HH is more of a pushing kick you might find a 300 win will have a sharper recoil I call my 375 a any angle rifle you can shoot any critter in north America. from any angle and get to the vitals

People have asked me why I like the .375, my reply is angles don’t matter!

I shoot everything (including whitetail) with a 270gr bullet. I will switch to the 300-grainer if and when I'll ever hunt large dangerous game, although so far it hasn't interested me. Short of elephant, rhino, hippo and perhaps buffalo, the 270-grain bullet will kill everything reliably while giving you modest recoil and a very practical point-blank range of 250-275 yards (conservatively).

If I had to use only one cartridge and only one load for the rest of my life, this would be it.

Below is my 270-grainer as recovered from an eland.

The .378 should be mounted on a carriage and fired with a lanyard...
@375er
I had the pleasure of firing a 378 and didn't find it to bad. Admittedly it was with light weight 232gn speers but they were loaded full throttle. The owner used it for pig hunting.
The 460 was not enjoyable. 3 shots pulled me up and that was standing not off the bench. You can keep that beast.

Yes, the .375 is a pleasure to shoot. Read up on the significant difference in recoil energy/felt recoil of bigger bore calibers in Kevin Robertson's Africa's Most Dangerous. With the bigger bores, it's usually a giant step up in felt recoil, but there are ways of mitigating it (including standing 20 yds from a bull elephant or buffalo staring you down!) Even a shorter-cased 458 Win Mag has considerable additional felt recoil as it shoots much heavier bullets and the weight of the gun is about the same as the 375. My 416 is a brute with handloads for the same reason. 375 is also fantastic for AK (and PG hunting in areas where DG lurk), because no matter what you're hunting, there's always the possibility of something hunting you...That, and it's also a decent longer-range cartridge (for PG.)

The recoil energy/velocity of the 270 is about 16/10 and the 375 48/16, so it's definitely more, generally speaking. It's not an abrupt shove to the shoulder like a lot of other "magnums," thus the relatively low felt recoil. If you use factory ammo, the 416 isn't too much worse (48/18) but hot handloads can be considerably more punishing and the 458 (60-70/20) on up generally yields appreciably more recoil (i.e. 75-150/30)! A well set-up .375 is a wonderful thing which Kevin Robertson specifically talks about in his AMD book (what work a CZ needs prior to utilizing it for DG. Don't go cheap on scope mounts for that receiver!!!)

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark

I really like that knife you're selling. It looks so similar to my original 1306 that has been around a long time. I can't spend that much but if you get to a point where you'd entertain offers let me know. Thx, James
