What do you consider to be the best hunting area in all of Africa? And I know this is a tricky question. Am I talking plains game, dangerous game, or a mix of both? That's for you guys to decide.

My friend @CZDiesel leans towards the Save Valley Conservancy. I tend to think Tanzania is the best, with the Selous and Maasailand being my two favorite places. I'd probably land in Maasailand if I had to choose.

I think this will always be a grass is greener on the other side question. My first thought is areas I haven’t hunted yet. I’ve hunted Northern Cameroon, a few regions in Namibia and South Africa, Zambezi valley in Zimbabwe, the kafue in Zambia, and Maasailand in Tanzania. I’ll head to Uganda next year. Every region had its positives and negatives compared to the others. I think Zambezi valley in Zimbabwe is my favorite because of the hunting style. The most game rich was the kafue in Zambia when I hunted it. I think my thoughts would go towards coutada 11 in Mozambique for the best hunting area today I haven’t seen yet.

I have hunted only Namibia, Zimbabwe ( Zambezi Valley ), northern Cameroon. Would hunt any again in a heartbeat but would just as easily pick only Zimbabwe and Cameroon if choices were restricted. I have hunted the Zambezi three times. Simply love hunting there and think often of my great times there.
Africa has a wide and interesting variety of hunting potential and sadly for me I'll never experience the total. I really enjoy more remote and challenging situations ( read more expensive ) which in Africa and at my stage in life I would only ever do with great good fortune. I live in hope

Wherever you currently are in Africa! :D

Niassa game reserve along Lugenda River has lots of everything tinies to buff, eland with excellent horn size . Saw more buff in Selous but everything else not nearly as much except for wildebeest. Can’t justify the cost of Masailand and Kasanso Busanga GMA in Zambia but they hold serious trophy game. When they give me 3 months to live “gone there”.

Really curious how this gets answered, I’ve always assumed it would be Tanzania something

The real answer is probably the areas under the most consistent long term management. Areas like bubye valley, certain save valley ranches, national parks in Namibia, coutada 11, etc. Tanzania has some great areas and a huge amount of land set aside for wildlife but they have areas in decline and many on up down cycles too. A great area today could be a terrible area in 2 years under the wrong management or an outfitter under financial strain.

I’ll second this, tons of game along the Lugenda…maybe not so much after this nonsense

A question that’s impossible to answer. Every safari destination has its charms and drawbacks.

The one where you’re having a good time.

After giving this some thought, here’s my opinion.

Best for first-timers and Plains Game: Namibia. Excellent infrastructure means logistics are relatively cheaper. Keeps all costs down. Large ranches both fenced and unfenced. Numerous species of plains game (although Namibia can’t compete against SA in this regard.) A sleeper country for leopard. There are lots of cats in several regions. Buffalo, Elephant, Hippo and Croc are available in the Caprivi. Prices are high there, but mostly offset by the far lower cost of transportation. Maybe the only place in Africa where I’d opt for a 10-Hour car ride vs a pricey chartered plane.

Best wild Africa: Luangwa Valley, Zambia. Here’s where my lack of experience kicks in. I’ve only hunted 2 truly wild areas….the Zambezi Valley in Zimbabwe and the Luangwa Valley in Zambia. Both were fantastic areas in their own ways. Most of the Zambezi Valley areas are light on plains game but fantastic for dangerous game. The Luangwa had both in spades. Thus, my pick is the Luangwa. How this compares to Tanzania, or other top tier safari areas I can’t say. I CAN say that Tanzania ranges from super-expensive to yougottabeshitting me! If I had the money I’d go to Tanzania.

I've always hunted the hard places it seems. I've not found the best place yet. I'll keep looking.

The place I’m booked to hunt next is the best, where ever that might be. I am heading to the Caprivi and Bushmanland in August. I’ve been to the Caprivi before but it will be my first time in Bushmanland so I’m really looking forward to that. Then there is the Omay, I’ll be there in 2027 so, choices choices.

I’m with @Philip Glass, not sure I’ve found it yet. In the name of research, I better keep trying new places and keep looking. Check back here regularly for updates.
