The closed system recoil would be similar to either barrel length- The open system, ie after the bullet leaves the muzzle would depend on the effectiveness of the brake and the pressure curve of the powder. A slower burning powder will generally have greater recoil due to two factors: an increased amount of powder relative to the faster powders and a significant amount of pressure as the bullet leaves the muzzle resulting in the jet-propulsion effect. It is possible that you could have a pleasant rifle to shoot if you can achieve the velocity you want by using one of the faster powders- .a Interarms Mark X action and a 20 in barrel with a fixed 2 in muzzle break. Not sure how a shorter barrel affects recoil
