I wanted to try a Nilgai hunt but recently the price drastically increased and that put me far away from that happening. If you have a better price, please let me know.
Africa seems the best option.

You won’t get a quality hunt (day time, spot and stalk) in a good area ( free range, lots of animals)for a mature bull (lots of people shoot juveniles) for less the 4k

Dont waste your money elsewhere.

Crazy, my first nilgai was on the Armstrong for $600, next was on Robert East Ranch $800, both big bulls, last one was $1200 on the King, and we thought it was highway robbery

Supply and demand. It is a fairly restricted range and a limited number of animals that can be taken and maintain a huntable resource. The state does not manage them, so this is done informally by land owners ...... just like Aoudad and Axis.

Do they even have nilgai in Africa?

I went with the same outfitter several years ago and I think that is about the same as what I paid.
It was worth it to me to hunt Nilgai on the King Ranch. I am doing something different every year and that is the only hunt so far I am determined to repeat.
Not to says it is not a lot of money, I get it.

Many of the hill country herds suffered great losses due to Winter Storm URI a few years back. The temperatures hovering around zero for several days killed many. It’s taken a while to regroup after that. So costal areas like the King Ranch are your best bet.

If you want nilgai, go to the King Ranch. Least expensive (if you don’t have free access elsewhere), free range, and plentiful. I hunt them when I score on the drawn hunts, but I’ve hunted the King Ranch twice (day hunts). Tagged out by noon after much hunting both times.

Great meat and great trophies!

Of course all of those are put and take behind high fences, habituated to feeders, and very different animals from their free range brethren. They do not occur free range north of the south coastal flats due to the cold weather.

This

I like to think it's a temporary jump in the market pricing.
Delicious creatures but they ask a premium currently.

Not all but most. There are a few ranches in the area that are spot and stalk but for the most part it’s blind sitting.

Hello there. I’ve been wanting to introduce myself personally & chat with you about hunting Nilgai. Give me a call sometime…

Best,

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
