I had a safari planned 10 years ago, lost my hunting partner at to young of an age. Never made the trip.
Fast forward. I will be taking my step son on safari for his college graduation in 2019.
I have not kept up in my hunting circle. Been primarily a sheep , elk and moose hunter.
I have read about the Selous since a child , very intriguing. I believe there are other great areas and options.
I want him to experience one dangerous game (Cape Buffalo) animal on this hunt. Other animals of main interest would be Sable and Kudu. From there a Zebra and some common spiral horn antelope should round out the trip.
We are looking for a non fenced concession , that is safe from political unrest.
If any of you seasoned hunters have recommendations I would be grateful to hear from you with your ideas, suggestions and confidential recommendations . Please feel free to email me and I will send you my private email.
I have set aside funds for this hunt so we are wanting a special experience with one of the best PH’s in the industry.
Thanks in advance!
Paul

If you have the means I would be looking at John Sharp in Zimbabwe or Peter Dafner in Tanzania.

So many choices... I guess it depends on budget and how far in the wild you want to go. I've been to Zimbabwe and Zambia, loved both and want to go back to both!! I have hunted with two outstanding PH's in these countries, would be glad to share with you if you like.

Are you also looking to hunt DG? If so what?

Yes, Yes, and Yes.
You should be able to find the hunt you are looking for in any of those three countries. So you are on the right track there. The key will be to find the right PH and location within those countries that best fits your needs. There are PH's on this site that operate in the areas you are thinking about. So sit back and wait and I'm sure they will be along on this thread shortly. Good luck and let us all know what you decide. You are in for a great hunt no matter what!

Tanzania costs more, but odds of something going wrong beyond your control are less. Stable government. Strong anti-poaching controls. Access to fuel and tires. If you can afford Tanzania, go to Tanzania.

Yes. Our main focus will be a trophy Cape Buffalo. Second mature Sable/Kudu . Then just some fun animals primarily spiral horn antelope and Zebra. We want to have 12 actual hunting days . Once in Africa we have a budget for hunting of $50K. I like pristine wilderness with some comfort and nice food.
Thanks for sharing your Africa experiences . My goal is to have this part wrapped up in about 2-3 weeks.
Best,
Paul

Thank you for your response .
I enjoyed the part about the gas and tires!
PM me if you have an idea or two on Tanzanian PH’s and concessions . My information is dated. We really want to hunt a big trophy Cape buffalo , we have a budget for this . Looks like we could share a 21 day license that would along with 2 buffalo also allow 1 Sable, 1 Kudu, and some fun hunting for probably Zebra and some common spiral horn antelope.

I wish we could supply all of the animals you drsire, but unfortunately we cannot.
You will have to look very hard to find a better gentleman or better PH than John Sharp. The BVC where John is hunting is great and will have everything you desire!

Hi Paul

We can offer you hunts in Zimbabwe and South Africa if you are interested please would you send me a mail and we will gladly quote your Safari, there are many options so would appreciate if you told me more on your mail of what you are looking for so that we can get you in at the correct area.

Tanzania would be a fabulous destination. However, In all likelihood a kudu would be quite challenging (read Green Hills of Africa or Ruark). Several operators in Mozambique could easily fill your list, and of course, any number of South African operations, though the RSA obviously would not be a wilderness experience.

If the final decision will be Tanzania, I would suggest to consider following PG species to hunt. Gerenuk, Grants gazzele, Thomson gazzele, lesser kudu.
Of course, under condition they are present in your hunting area with your main goal (buff).
Those species - generally you cannot hunt anywhere else, and are real PG trophies!

At this moment Tanzannia is a bit too much expensive for me, but those few animals remain on my wish list!

Zambia, very underrated yet one of the top destinations for a true safari or Zimbabwe(John Sharp).

Tanzania is an option if you can afford it.
You can probably do more on the hunt with the slightly cheaper rates in Zambia (some excpetions)
Zim will probably be the lowest priced.

My vote, for obvious reasons, is Zambia. Luangwa Valley or Kafue would be great and you'll have a chance at all the animals you've mentioned plus some others...
Tanzania and Zambia both offer some unique species.
$50k will likely get you a very good hunt in Zambia.

That's a good budget. If I had that budget I would most definitely hunt in Tanzania. True old style African experience. STRONG second choice would be John Sharp.

most of your $50k will be taken by the 21 day licence in tanzania .....day rates in the $2000 per day region. sable is on 21 day licence as you say......you only want to hunt for 12 days....so i agree with pete that for that budget and that amount of days you could do a very good hunt in zambia......with buff and sable, kudu etc....

Tanzania is the best option in my opinion, species like kudu, buffalo and sable are in good numbers if you get outfitters with good areas. I have hunted quite abit with Nathan Askew's @bulletsafaris and he has areas in Rungwa that are spectacular. Get hold of him via nathanaskew@yahoo.com or contact him here in AH and he'll give you a deal like no other for Tanzania.

Kudu shot two days ago, sable and a nice old dagga boy. All shot in Rungwa game reserve
