Just wrapped up my 21 day safari in the Selous Game reserve with Tanganyika Wildlife Safaris. This was my second hunt with them and the hunt was outstanding. The rains were heavier than normal this year and a lot of water holes that would normally be dry by now are still holding water. Here are few pictures. The Selous is a very special place and I have been privileged to have been able to hunt there.

Leopard and buff....very nice, but that Bushbuck believe it or not is my favorite.

Very nice trophies. Congratulations.
When you get a moment please expand on your hunt.

Nice animals. Congratulations. Would love to get your opinion on the Ele population in the Selous and the poaching problem that has been making headlines these days.

I appreciate your attitude towards the Bushbuck. It is the "special" of the safari. This is the 20th season for my PH hunting in the Selous. This is his first one. We were walking a hippo trail along a dry creek bed when it popped out close to 200 yards down the creek. Confirms my belief that the best approach to a 21 day Safari is to just get up and go hunting.

The feedback that we got from the PH's is that the poachers have had a real impact on the population. This real issue is that they are mostly killing cows and calves. They do not feel that the poachers have had much of an impact on the big bulls. Our safari was the second of the season, and it is about this time each year that the elephants start moving from the hills down into the river valleys. We saw one legal bull with an askari, and only 3 other small cow/calf herds. We did see more and more sign each day as we got closer to the end or our hunt. As a side note, we were also told that lion populations seem to have really increased from the carcasses left by the poachers. No telling the implications if that is in fact true. We did see a significantly more lions than when we were there in 2012.

Congrats on what had to have been a tremendous experience. Wish I could manage 21 days in the Selous ...... Will try not to be too bitter :-)

Am typing while holed up in the City Lodge in J'Burg waiting to fly out to Moz for a couple of week. First time on this coast and am really looking forward to having a real opportunity at Nyala and Sable. Really look forward to hearing about the rest of your hunt.

And well done on the cat.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
