Could you let us know about the elephant situation there?Did you post a report? I confess that I haven't yet. I'm about 3/4's done, slow process.

Could you let us know if you saw any/many elephants? No I haven't posted a report and probably won't. Same reason as your 1st question. I would hunt that same area again anytime but not with Ultimate Tanzania Safaris/Charl. Which doesn"t matter as he doesn't hunt there anymore. If you have anymore questions DM me.
I wasn't hunting Nalika, as I said I was West of there hunting buffalo although there was elephant around.Could you let us know about the elephant situation there?
So awesome to see a comeback Graham! The bad poaching ended about 2014 so the abundance of young animals makes sense.I saw lots of Elephants. Every other day I saw Elephants and every day there was very fresh evidence of Elephants. Trees across the road fresh tracks and quite often heard them . Saw lot's of cows and calves and young Buls. The best Bull I saw was 40-45lbs according to my PH. The area is 750,000 acres. My partner hunted a different part of the area and saw Elephant daily. Got chased down a two track by a young cocky Bull for 1/2 mile. Got caught in a valley one day by a herd and had to light grass to move the Elephants out. They saw a Bull that was 70 lbs. I'm not an Elephant hunter so they were a nuisance to me! To my vast knowledge (none) there seemed to be a lot of tuskless cows which can't be hunted.
The concern that I hear for the Selous is two fold. First the hydro-eclectic dam on the Rufiji river that is flooding large portions of the Selous Game Reserve. This is a major encroachment to the reserve and from what I hear an environmental disaster. So awesome to see a comeback Graham! Maybe someday Selous will be an elephant destination once again. At one time it was the best.
Areas adjoining the new park will be good elephant areas again in say 10 years. The concern that I hear for the Selous is two fold. First the hydro-eclectic dam on the Rufiji river that is flooding large portions of the Selous Game Reserve. This is a major encroachment to the reserve and from what I hear an environmental disaster.
Secondly, 2/3 of what was once the largest game reserve was taken for the Nyerere National Park (named after the presidents son). This large area is now totally off-limits for hunting. Aside from the loss of hunting opportunities the concern is that the area is so large effective anti-poaching efforts are impossible at this time. It is not difficult to imagine what will happen to the wildlife without the presence of the safari camps that contributed to the anti-poaching campaign.
At this time there are only limited photo-safari lodges in the Nyerere Park but that is likely to change with the resulting chaos of hoards people with cameras all jockeying for view of the same sleeping lion.
I was told the dam is now full. They’ve apparently opened up some new adjacent forestry areas that were previously not open to hunting. I don’t think it’s the loss it was made out to possibly be. At least not yet.The concern that I hear for the Selous is two fold. First the hydro-eclectic dam on the Rufiji river that is flooding large portions of the Selous Game Reserve. The lake itself will not be an issue …it pay provided a more dependable water sourceI was told the dam is now full. They’ve apparently opened up some new adjacent forestry areas that were previously not open to hunting. I don’t think it’s the loss it was made out to possibly be. At least not yet.
