I’m 0 for 2 on Tag shirts. Great material, but the quality control was lacking. Quickly lost buttons and seams open up. Button size not matching the holes, either too tight or to loose.
Great if that’s not what others have experienced, but I won’t give them a third chance.

Try Johnson's Workwear for general safari use. They have shirts, long trousers, shorts in all colours. Very durable.
for a top end quality item you just can't beat a Westley Richards safari shirt, last word in finish, but they are thick and warm.

Why did Cabelas stop their safari clothing line, out of convenience or çorrectness?

My PH in Zim expressed his dislike for TAG clothing such as I was wearing. He stated that TAG catches on every thorn along the trail. He may be right. I found that while I had to stop often and free my TAG shirt and trousers from large, sharp thorns, very few penetrated to my skin.

The PH recommended SALTY brand clothing of which I picked up a shirt at a souvenir shop as I was leaving Bulawayo. The SALTY shirt is thinner than those from TAG which would have been nice on 100+ F days in Zim in October. If one Googles SALTY clothing a South African vendor comes up, Azulwear. Their shirts as 295 Rand which is about $20 US. Even with shipping and any import duty, they would be a good value in the USA.

Brandon, I been hitting EBay and buying the Cabela’s pants for the last 2 years. I have about 15 pair now and have spent no more than $25 for a pair. I wear them for work also and just about every day. As for shirts since I am a big guy, I wear 100% Cotton Columbia shirts. They are the only ones I can find in 5xl.

Thanks. That brings up the next question. Is it possible to order direct from the Zimbabwe manufacturer?
Note: I commend Tag Safari for marketing hunting clothes, especially those designed principally with Africa in mind. I'd definately buy from them if I were in the US. However for those of us not in the US, it doesn't make sense to have to pay to ship from Africa to the US and then from the US to our countries ie two lots of international transport costs which can double if not triple the cost.

From my understanding the garments are made in zim using local cotton etc...then shipped to USA ...where they operate their sales from...the prices are based on sales in usa ...so you aren't paying twice...only shipping from USA....no different from all the clothing you wear that is most likely made in various far east countries.....email them at TAG they are good people who will he able to answer your questions

Have some of those as well...as you say are thinner cotton...and I would say not as tough...don't know why he doesn't like tag shirts...as I have never had a problem when wearing mine ....the salty might be better with thorns as it would more likely rip so wouldn't hang up

They dropped their safari clothes when Johnny Morris bought them and merged the with Bass Pro. It was a commercial decision. Mostly what you see in a Cabela’s store is Red Head branded stuff. I realize that there‘s a large market for”valued priced” merchandise even in hunting gear. However, Red Head stuff is beyond cheap. One season and throw it away.

Thank you all. Checking a few leads, including eBay. I received two set of the Tag long sleeve shooter shirts and two pairs of their shorts to try for now.

Oddly enough, I was getting dressed for a Cub Scout meeting the other night and thought the zip off canvas pants from the uniform might make a nice set of safari convertibles.....

'Lotta fires during COVID. What a coincidence!! LOL So much Lightning in '20-21. 'Just get some typ safari color clothing from TSC (carhartt, et. al.) save your pennies and give the rest to the local economies in Africa! If you're not going back, give 'em that clothing, too! At least, the people on the lowest rungs of the economic ladder in Africa, work hard for a living!

Back on topic though ... I think it depends to some extent on the season during which the hunt will take place. Mine was in August (so cooler weather) and the TAG trousers that I brought were OK on moderate days but a bit too thin for the cooler days. The fabric would be great during the warmer months. Duluth Trading Company makes "Ballroom Khaki Cargo Pants" which worked well for me. They are a bit heavier fabric, but comfortable. Also, there is a sleeve just behind the right-side cargo pocket which is perfect for a water bottle, in case you plan on being out for awhile.

That's the idea with TAG...their stuff is made in zim using materials from there...so you are helping the people who are employed by them in zim.....

Agreed @spike t. They employ a lot of folks in Bulawayo. I really like their short sleeve shirts. I do agree with the comment on the buttons. Plan on re-sewing the buttons if that is the right term for it.

Unfortunately, it's not that the my wallet is too fat from cash, but from other stuff i have to carry. But if you would like to fatten it up, you are more then welcome to send some cash. I am sure their is some Blaser or Heym product that I can't live without.

Brandon I have been a 5.11 fan from day one when they only made 2 pairs of pants I still have my original tac light pants although after 15 years they got a bit tight around the waist! Lately however I have been more than happy with the Johnson workware range and it’s almost 1/3 of the price. They make a very decent Safari shirt with an inside” Safari pocket” to hold passport / cash etc.

With Cabela's safari clothes discontinued, and my sets starting to get a little threadbare, I'm looking at new clothing for next season. I was able to order a few sets of Tag shorts and shirts on Amazon, but their website is showing most of their clothes as out of stock. Any word on this business or reviews of their clothes?
