Stripers - SF Bay

Nice lingcod, love catching those down here in socal and Mexico waters. Those things are great eating. Just finished all my fish from my 10 day trip and need to get out there again next year.

Been a while since my last long range trip… What boat were you on? I was at Coronados a couple mounts ago. Good yellow tail bite.

NIGHTHAWK, I think it’s great that you’re getting out there on your boat. What I really wanted to do this year but missed the window was shallow water Lings and rockfish on the Marin coast. Live bait Lings in 30 feet of water are good fun and damn good eating, as you know.

You bet. Missed that opportunity myself, although yesterday we caught about 14" Ling right at Racoon Straights. We are also looking to get out for Albacore if they show in numbers outside the gate or a Bluefin...

I’m pretty sure this has been the best bluefin fishing outside The Gate in decades, maybe ever. I know one guy who caught a 248 and another that got a 175. The albies seemed to be gone almost as soon as they showed up. It seems like they’ve been way more consistent farther north.

Yup, last couple years. We hooked one last year not far from the Islands and had it come unbuttoned. My boat has a custom triple axle trailer, so we could tow it to Fort Bragg, but that is a helluva commitment. I also have a 21' Wellcraft that I thought about taking up there... I have 300 mile range on my Cat, so it would be better to get them out of the Gate or Bodega. We're chomping at the bit for a chance!

My boat is a private boat.

New Huck Finn is great boat! Good job.
The ling cod are even better eating than the stripers!

I lived in NorCal for years and ran my Parker on the bay & delta (stripers & black bass), offshore Monterey (albacore), and Santa Cruz (halibut) and up the coast for salmon.

One of the few things I miss about California is the variety and quality of the fishing.

I spent some time fishing and hunting in the Atchafalaya basin out of Bayou Pigeon. I understand where you are coming from. We would also hoop net blue crabs near Morgan City…
@NIGHTHAWK I enjoyed this post, and all the comments. Never fished SFO, nice boat and catch! Spent MANY days either frogging, crawfishing, or hunting around Bayou Pigeon. And Joe mentioned Cameron. Great goose hunting out that way.
