Storage Fees f/Imported Trophies?

That's where your importer comes in at.

I don't expect to pay for more than 3 days storage if any.
Well maybe the Rep at Coppersmith is blowing smoke up my ass then, just got off the phone with her and she said at LAX its taking a minimum of 5 and usually 7-10 days to get clearance through all the agencies. In the meantime airlines are charging $150-$200 per day for storage!

How many days of storage was incurred? Also may be good to verify why it was stored and by whose request/fault. Was it a USFW inspection, paperwork issue with the clearing agent, other? Storage fees get so crazy that some people completely abandon their shipments. If due to an error by a service employed by you, it may be on them to correct. However, they are hard to ever recoup.

As @YancyW said above, photos from now on or another reason to now do dip and pack and finish work here as shipping and clearing fees would be much less.
A rep from Coppersmith in LA just told me that the average time to get cleared through all the appropriate agencies is 7-10 days, with an average storage price of $150-$200 day! She said they're not allowed to rush the process and can't even contact USFW until its been at least 5 days. I think airlines are just taking advantage of the situation to maximize their profits. How in the world can they justify charging that much per day to store a 42x34 crate?

Shipping cost increases have been at the mercy of the frieght companies for almost 3 years now. Just recently ocean frieght began to decrease from Asia due to demand and therefore production being scared back by companies.
I landed a 40' container from China to LA for 4500. First time since early 2020 its been that low. We'll see what the trends do.

It's not the air cargo rate itself that's so terrible...but having them attach these storage fee's of $150-$200 per day when the governmental agents won't even look at your cargo for 7-10 days is totally unrealistic!

After the prices for my last shipment and all the other fees, I am VERY close to photos only.
This will be a one time deal for me, next time I'll just go there enjoy the hunt and take pics. If I want a wall mount, I'll just buy one off ebay for a fraction of the price and won't involve any clearing/import costs!

Biggest thing I've learned after many calls the past several day's is to avoid LAX if at all possible. Fly through Seattle/Portland/Denver if going out west!

I was just quoted 124 x 90 x 85. Air freight. 154 lbs. $2300.00 for the flight.

Looking for some guidance. I recently went to RSA for my first hunt in January of this year. I spent the following:
- $1680 for one wildebeest shoulder mount, one impala wall pedestal mount, springbok euro mount, and some odds & ends hides/goods/etc w/Bullseye Taxidermy
- $1773 for shipment from RSA to Dallas (inclusive of air freight, permit & documentation, crating & packaging for export, cartage & inland transport, facility & handling fees, & liability protection) w/African Legacy Logistics
- $3622.53 for customs clearance and delivery. The itemized charges are:
  • $2.22 for duties and disbursement charges
  • $450 for customs clearance
  • $236.8 for destination terminal charge
  • $2400 for storage fees
  • $533.33 for delivery charge
I don't have any complaints about the taxidermy or shipment pricing, but feel I'm 100% getting hosed on storage fees. I'm not naming the organization I've utilized since I've asked for an explanation of that charge and I haven't paid yet. Does that seem crazy high to anyone else, and do I have any avenues for disputing that? I'd be all in at $7075.53 if it holds.
Wow…it seems to now be a recurring theme…storage fees are the new killer charge. I did not have anything like I am now seeing on my previous two shipments. Curious peoples thoughts why this is

If I go pack, I'm thinking the same. I'll be paying more than I spent on the trip itself by a decent margin, and I didn't get that much made.

From start to finish about 2 month. Shipping organization received trophies from taxidermist on 14 July. Shipment departed JNB on 21 Aug, and arrived at DFW on 26 Aug. It spent about 1.5 days in Turkey, but am unsure of the official dates. Released from customs on 6 Sep, and scheduled for delivery on 13 Sep. I'm mostly upset because I told the customs clearing house that I was available to come pick it up myself at the earliest possible date. I didn't here anything from them until this weekend, and it was a just an invoice and an notification of delivery date.

I went with Bullseye Taxidermy because my PH recommended them. I've seen photos of my trophies and am pleased with the work. I went with African Legacy Logistics because the taxidermist recommended them. No issues on that front. I'm not naming the customs house yet until they respond, but they were also recommended by the shipping company.
I too used Bullseye and there work was excellent. Hunt was 7/21. Jberg to Atlanta $521 storage fees

I just had a delivery through SEA via Coppersmith, they use a bonded offsite warehouse so they pulled my crate from Turkish Airlines immediately and cleared customs there. I believe the fees in their warehouse were something like $30/week after the first week.

My paperwork was started the morning that it was confirmed my crate was inbound, I had customs clearance approval less than 24 hours after landing.

I paid a total $190 for Airport Transfer fee and warehouse in/out fee - nothing itemized for storage. That was in addition to the customs entry and reporting fees.
