Steyr Mannlicher Model M Luxus .30-06 / Bausch Lomb Optic

Why are you guys hijacking his ad?
Thanks Rob, I always post nice stuff at good prices and it seems like everyone has to start a problem. It's a great rifle at a great price, why can't they just leave it at that.. I am honestly thinking of leaving this site, and I hope the moderator sees this.. Unlike these guys, I have owned 23 of the later luxus guns and many of these... Probably over 50 steyrs in my life.. Some guns are not even cataloged.. There were deluxe Model M rifles and they came in different configurations..

Just bored and disinterested I guess. No harm meant. Gone now.

Nope! When I bought mine at Kettner, the Franco German distributor, in 1984 if I remember, I had the choice between the Standard, like yours, the Luxus, like mine, and the Professional (although this one was rare on the shelves). The Standard and Luxus were made and sold in parallel. I can tell you for a fact that my best pal and I bought ours - his a Standard in .243 and mine a Luxus in .270 - within weeks of each other.

Steyr Mannlicher did not offer (at least in Europe) a "de luxe" and all the "Standard" I ever saw had a fore end tip. Only the competition / benchrest rifles did not have one, but had a heavy stock often with ventilation vents in the forearm.

You have a "Standard", period, but the possible variation (?) with yours could be an "American" version with shiny synthetic finish and single trigger, compared to the traditional oil finish and typical double trigger sold in Europe. I am not saying that I know this to be a fact, I am speculating, but slapping a shiny varnish was the usual way to "Americanize" European rifles in those days, and a single trigger would make sense for an "American" version which the importer could very well have labelled "de luxe" (see I am trying to be nice to you) :)
No Rosewood tips....just saying

Just a few words on scope ,B&L scopes were very popular here for match uses, Running Moose target, Fieldgame competion ( ranges on FG can be from 20-350 meters ) . The 6-24x50 on a say Sauer 200 STR match took countless medals and cups in Hunter A class. Top notch scope in short.

Truth in advertising is the answer :)

The word "Luxus" has a very specific meaning in the Steyr Mannlicher lingo. For rifles of this period, it refers to a specific model that includes metal trigger guard, metal in line magazine, and non-external-extractor CRF bolt. All very meaningful features. Luxus rifles are stamped as such, per previous post with pics.

The rifle advertised, a Model M Standard features plastic trigger guard, plastic magazine, and most likely non CRF bolt. This is not a Luxus, and should not be advertised as such. That's all.

Like in the car world: not every Mustang is a Shelby...

When the gauntlet was thrown...

You are both incorrect...

... sestoppelman and I just responded...

Whether the poster now wants to call it "De Luxe" is totally indifferent to me - at least an unsuspecting member will not be misled into thinking it is a Luxus - and if he wants to report this thread to Jerome, he is more than welcome from my perspective: I do not think that Jerome condones false advertising on AH. As to leaving the blog because a few folks pointed out the issue, I guess it is his choice, anyway his sole activity on AH has only been to sell a couple rifles (check his posts history)...

Signing out, and with no regret and no feeling of having hijacked the thread, just corrected the ad, and amazed at the fact that the poster did not simply react by immediately correcting the offer rather than engaging in a convoluted morphing of Luxus into questionable De Luxe :E Rofl:

A "De Luxe" (?) it might be although I do not remember Steyr Mannlicher ever offering one. However, they likely have produced the "Standard" without fore end tip at some point, and with one at a later time, I just do not know, but a Luxus it is not ;)

This is really too bad, because I will restate: it is a nice rifle at an attractive price, that certainly does not need to be "up-sold" :)
