Spring fishing in the desert

Bass are decent eating, but I mostly catch & release them.
It sounds quite absurd for a European guy to drive three hours to catch a few fish and throw em back again, but I understand there’s another understanding of distance over the big pond. Keep up great threads like this nonetheless!

Nice pics of an interesting part of the world. One of my bucket list fishing destinations is Lake Powell or somewhere similar.

I hear you. It's a form of conservation sport fishing. There are other species in the lake that I catch and keep for great table fare. Crappie, Bluegill, and Channel Catfish make for good eats
Being out on the lake sometimes makes it worthwhile, catching fish is a bonus.

@Brent in Az - I gave my dad your recommendations, and he’s out on Roosevelt having some success. This is one of many reasons why I like AH, virtual teamwork.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
