Good day AH members.
Wanted to ask this question to get a better understanding from you as a hunter.

In South Africa we are very limited to Spotted Hyena tags and our hunting areas is some if not the best and highly populated Spotted Hyena areas in South Africa ( LOWVELD ).

My question is, is it worth for you as the hunter to come just for a Hyena or do a combo hunt with plainsgame? or combo it with a Dangerous Game hunt?

We always do pre baiting starting of the hunting season on all our areas to determine how many and the ages of the Hyenas that gives as a good idea what is huntable, for this reason we have a 100% success rate.

looking forward to hearing your feedback on this.

If I was going to hunt a spotted hyena in RSA, I’d want it to be part of a package or at least have a reasonable opportunity at other animals. I understand that the permitting process in RSA makes them more expensive to hunt there than in other countries.

I would like to hunt Hyena either one but to me I can't justify the the trophy fee

Just a hyena no, but I would definitely hunt a hyena! They are on my shrinking list of animals I want to hunt in South Africa. I would want to pair it with other nocturnal critters along with bushbuck and any tiny tens in the area that I don’t have.

I’m definitely interested in hyena but the trophy fee in SA is a bit of a turn off. I would rather do a combo hunt for them.

Great question.

I juggled this exact question over the last few months with my PH. I'm going on a 8 day cape buff hunt and originally planned to add a hyena, but as it's nigh hunting, more difficult, and likely I would run out of time if I didn't get a buffalo in the first few days, I decided to move it to another future safari.

I would not make the trip solely for that hunt, but I would add on time (10-12 day hunt) to add it to a DG hunt like hippo or croc in the future.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

Made it to Augusta Georgia yesterday for a meeting, hunt bookings are looking good for 2026 and 2027, had a great time on our Alabama safari shot a rutting deer at 200 yards with 7mm PRC near Huntsville and then headed on to Butler Alabama and semi guided my first deer ever shot a very nice broken off 8 point with hunter there and spend a few days on 1100 acres hunting preserve awesome place!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
