Speaking of beer question?

I have no trouble drinking Castle! Tastes good to me!

The appropriate temperature for a Mosi.
Ice cold beer in hand back at camp with a toasty mopane wood fire going at my feet.

When I was a youngster, I remember my dad saying his two favorite beers were "Cold" and "Free." Now that I am older and hopefully wiser, I have moved beyond my dad's rather simple choices. I am more complex and have more complicated requirements. I'd have to say my favorite beer is "Free Cold" beer.

Windhoek Black or Green bottle is always a welcome sight after a day in Africa! Kilimanjaro is a great beer with best slogan, “ if you can’t climb it, drink it!”
That’s a great marketing tag line!
Is Kilamanjoro exported to the USA?
Probably past shelf life when it would arrive here!

From what I remember (from 26 years ago), in RSA, Lion Lager was good.
My South African hosts liked Castle

But, they also sampled cheap Scotch at Makro Mart at 9:00 AM.
Lots of samples.

Don’t want to sound like I’m disparaging my South African compadres. A great bunch of guys, that I would ride the range with anytime.
They would fit right in Cajun country, eating, drinking and having a helluva time.

But back to Beer;
My Dad taught me early on, after a 12 hour day bailing hay in 100 degree, Humid weather, that the best Beer is Cold and Wet!

Here you are @Wathe208 and other aficionados... didn't manage yesterday, but this is from today when stopped on way back to takeri for some suppliesView attachment 539008
SpikeT,

You must try some of that Striped horse Lager below in your photo.
The one with the red on the cap.

I buy them here in 600ml bottles not the smaller ones good deal for a good beer.

Mosi is good better than Zambesi.
Tusker and Kili also good not a big fan of beer in Mozambique.
Windhoek draught in a can tastes better to me than bottled, very strange as I hate cans otherwise.
Tafel and Windhoek lager always good.
Then we have a bunch of good Craft beers here in South Africa and I lean towards IPA.

Had Darling Brew CPA the other day and was quite impressed.

Think the outfitters especially in the Cape should have more Craft beer in lodge for the clients to sample.

I hate Castle can drink Castle lite as a survival drink only not a fan of pilsner and Amstel.

So for the time being I drink Striped Horse Lager and Windhoek Draught if not Craft beer.
Then obviously as a born Belgian I'm a beer snob and will also buy imported Belgian beer.

Windhoek Lager, Windhoek draught & castle. A close friend and neighbor who was a Selous Scout drinks nothing but Lion. I believe it was a Scout tradition.

I am down on the alcohol so discovered Devil’s Peak, it is wonderful. I still have an occasional beer, and of course Scotch!

Best beer I've had hands down anywhere in Africa was Mosi, in Zambia!

My second Favorite was a tie between Kilimanjaro and Safari in Tanzania

Let’s talk beer region to region, country to country in Africa
what’s popular and what needs to be poured back into the horse it came from ?
RSA, Namibia, Zimbabwean
any good Pilsner?
Tafel lager from Namibia is my favorite. Remember Namibia was a German colony and to this day has many Germans living there. Windhoek lager is good As well.
Many were drinking Bkack Label in RSA so I finally tried it. It was good. It's pretty much downhill from there.

That’ll work , I don’t drink anything that doesn’t come from a bottle or can when I travel internationally, beer & cider, or rum , keeps my Gastrointestinal system healthy
Excellent advice ☝️

I like Castle, Tafel, Windhoek, Zambezi, Lion, Safari, all good. My son like Carling the best.
What I really enjoyed in RSA was a Dutch beer, Amstel, cant get it here except in light, yuk and since it was bought out by Heinekens, it lost its distinct flavor.
How Hamms ever got into the conversation is beyond me, liquid Dog ****! Just like the appropriately named Moose Drool.

There is a Kenyan beer called Tusker, named in honour of the brewery owner, who was killed by an elephant. Must have meant some awkward conversations, however:

Company man - Sorry about your husband, we have named a beer in his honour.
Widow - You called the beer ”George”
Company man - Erm … no. But that might have been more respectful.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
