South Texas Nilgai hunt

Barns 210 TTSX in a 338 WM worked well for me two days ago. Pics in the Bullet Performance thread. (My outfitter got us in just before the big storm hitting tonight btw).

A fresh Barns something from a 300 WM recovered from a big bull being quartered at the cooler yesterday did too. Both perfect mushrooms.

Heart is even lower and more forward than expected. My outfitter, Lomas Chicas, aka Sam Ilse, (as well as my guide).both say the money shot is center of the shoulder for a broadside shot. "The neck shot, if the spine is missed, is a lost animal." There is a frontal option too if necessary.

Ive hunted with Sam half a dozen times, he definitely knows nilgai and the bullets that will finish them! I always enjoy him he's a great guy and lots of stories of his past game warden career to tell.

His son is also a (current) game warden and a hell of a tracker.

Sam is the man. I started with a quest to experience something different every year about 8 years ago. My Nilgai hunt with Sam is the one hunt I am eager to repeat in addition to all the new experiences I hope to have.

There's a big time meat processor and taxidermist in Kingsville. They will ship frozen with dry ice in a styrofoam box inside a heavy duty cardboard box.

That do really good work, relatively fast. They also do mounts from Africa. They had a very very large Sable in when we dropped off my son Oryx.

We have killed Nilgai with 6.5CM (neck spot) and 300WM (shoulder shot). Both hot the deck on the spot. Your 300WM will work no issues at all. Like others have said, be ready when it's go time.

i,ll have to check into a nilgai hunt, i have used my cz 550 in .375 H&H with good results on six hunting trips from 2013 to 2019.
