SOUTH AFRICA: Sunset To Sunrise Hunt With Pawprint Safaris! Oh & A Buffalo For Exercise

Wow! I have 5 other friends on 200 tonight and I'm at home with work to look forward to tomorrow. New trophy building construction project barely started and no prospect of another Safari until at least 2019...Good hunting to all of you. And remember the rest of us live vicariously through your reports until such time as we can be airborne again!

Good luck @Ridgewalker I know you'll have a great hunt(y) Them night critters are a blast! :) Looking forward to the report and pics.

Best of luck! Looking forward to hearing how it goes

Good luck, I am sure you will have fun!

Have a great time and best of luck. Bruce

View attachment 200922 Well, made it to DIA. Usual issue with Delta staff not knowing what to do. I still fail to understand why they even care about the SAPS permit. It seems to me they would be more interested in the 4457? 3 people and a couple of phone calls and finally got the gun inspected, delivered and through TSA. Start boarding in an hour for Atlanta.
good boots.

Keep your wits about you young man. If they leave your screwed!! Shoot straight and true the PawPrint crew are second to none. Go get that bag filled

Pieter, you can't possibly be as excited as I am to get to hunt with you. All the great posts I have read about you and your team have me ready!

For some reason I've lost 6 lbs the last month, so I plan to gain it back with your chef's delicious looking meals!

Claudius will keep you well fed.

@Whiskey1 are you planning to share some pictures and thoughts on your new trophy building. There have been a couple of folks on here in the past that built new digs for their trophies and it is always interesting to see the progress!

Can't wait to hear the "rest of the story "

Wow! What a whirlwind I have been in! A couple of hours off, so I'll do a little writing.

On board Delta 200 was the family from "Shootout Lane", Louisiana heading for a hunt.

Arriving in Joberg, Anna with Rifle Permints go me through and delivered me to Johan smoothly. Arriving at PawPrints dinner was being set by Claudius...surprise...he was my chef last year in the Limpopo! Great food!

A cake was brought out because it was Pieter's birthday!

Next morning loading the bakkie...another surprise! The tracker, Max, another friend from the Limpopo! This is like old home week!

Day 1 checked my rifle at 75 yards with 2 Barnes 300TSX and 1 Hornady 300 DGS...no problem.
Off to a concession down the road for bushbuck. No luck in the morning hunt, but the afternoon turned out perfect with a 15 3/4" bushbuck...unbelievable! I wasn't expecting such a wonderful trophy! My expectations for my hunts are just a good hunt and if I manage to get an animal for it to be a good example of the species and not "trophy" class. This one was a trophy class! Way beyond my expectations!

The night hunting turned up no caracal, but saw lots of duiker! Fun night even though no trigger time! Exhausted after a very late dinner I crashed quite soundly. Had to get up at 4:00 the next morning to leave for Cape buff by 5:00 to Atlanta valley.
Day 2 Yikes! The concession is all rocky and steep mountains! Quite frankly I made a mistake by only having Courtney's...no ankle support for rocks rolling under your feet! A good stiff pair of hiking boots would have been much better!
We managed to get close to a group of bulls 3 times in the late afternoon. At one point I was on the sticks for a good 5 minutes waiting for one to take a step from behind a tree...no luck they spooked again. A cold front was moving in so the winds just kept swirling.
After shooting light we made the 2 hour drive back to PawPrints for another great dinner, shower and to bed by 10:30. Restless night waiting for 4:00 to arrive to head back to Atlanta.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
