Getting ready to head to SA end of next month...given the issue with the rust should the pressure release valve on my gun case be open or closed during air travel?
Dad and I will hunt together again with my PH Carlos and focus on a Kudu for dad. Dad had agreed to lower his standards to the 52” or larger so we return to “Hidders Hideout” in search of a 53” Kudu we have seen several times this week. The morning passes without a Kudu bull so after lunch we decide to take one more run at my Waterbuck. We return to the same area where we had seen the waterbuck cows earlier in the week. Carlos soon spots the cows and a bull beaded down in the tall grass. We drive out onto the savanna to get a better look at the bedded bull and manage to drive within one hundred yards of them but to bull won’t stand up to give us a good look. After 20 minutes or so of waiting we decide to move the truck closer hoping this will cause the bull to move. Our plan works great, the bull stands up and looks right at us, he’s an adult male but not a shooter. We spend the next 30 minutes glassing and reevaluating the bull but he never grows an inch during that time so we decide to turn our attention to dads Kudu one last time. We saw several cows and young bulls that evening but no shooters, the sun sets on another great day hunting with my dad. We return to camp and Africa had one more treat for us before we had to leave, a complete lunar eclipse. What a way to end a safari.
