SOUTH AFRICA: MOZAMBIQUE: Off To Southern Africa With KMG & TMS & PPS

The sable graph is pretty interesting, 20 years of civil war in Mozambique and also a long war in Angola could have an effect. Northern Mozambique has Roosevelt Sable, a lot smaller than common Sable.

Wars don't effect game populations do they?

Brickburn, is that a trick question?

Nope. Pretty sure the critters in Chad and CAR have pretty well been obliterated or are well on there way.

"GORONGOSA: RESTORING MOZAMBIQUE’S NATIONAL TREASURE
But two years after Mozambique gained independence from Portugal in 1975, the country was engulfed by a civil war. By the time the war ended in 1992, a million people were dead and several million more were maimed, traumatized, and displaced. The web of life within Gorongosa’s park was likewise left in tatters. Soldiers killed and ate most of the large animals, and elephants were shot

for their ivory, a major source of funding for weapons and ammu- nition.

In the decade after the war, civilian hunters continued killing
most of the remaining large animals for food. In just 20 years, the decline in the number of herbivores in Gorongosa was staggering and, as the prey disappeared, so did the predators. Before the war, Gorongosa had over 200 lions, 2,500 elephants, 14,000 African buffaloes, 6,500 wildebeests, and 3,500 zebras. By 1994, you could count the number of lions on one hand, there were no buffaloes and wildebeests, and elephants and zebras each numbered under 110.

The scale of Gorongosa’s tragedy is not unique to Mozambique. "

Gorongosa had the largest hippo population in the world, 25000, not a single hippo left after the war.

Brickburn,

If you truly want a perspective of the impact of the civil wars in Southern Africa had on the game populations, buy and read "Eden's Exiles" by Co. Jan Breytenbach, the former CO of the South African Special Forces ("Recces") and 32 Battalion when you get to South Africa.

Amazon captions the book as follows:

“This is the story of war and conservation, a drama enacted in a theatre in the southwestern corner of Africa.”

Author Jan Breytenbach, a legend in military circles, and a founding member of South African Special Forces ‒ the Recces ‒ describes how he discovered that Military Intelligence was involved in illegal wildlife trade with Jonas Savimbi. To his horror and astonishment, senior officers were also using the MI created ivory-smuggling routes for their own corrupt ends. A must-read on a little known topic of the South African Border War, Angolan Civil War, and the de facto genocide of southern Africa's Big Five, particularly the elephant.

It is truly an interesting read.

Save for this enjoy your hunt and best of luck.

Snoepie

Thanks for the wishes and the reading suggestion.

One of the signs of a great Outfitter is the communication before the hunt. Not, just before the sale.

kmglogo.jpg Marius just checked in with me and let me know I am next on the list and he's ready to go.

He made sure that I knew my package has arrived with the statement: "The Eagle has Landed!"
Since the courier company has only allowed me to know it was "in transit" from Bloemfontein, this was a relief.
Otherwise, you guys would not be able to see the Ghillie pictures. :ROFLMAO:

Looking forward to seeing the southern part of the Eastern Cape.
