SOUTH AFRICA: KMG & The Hillbilly

What a grand hunt! Great shooting!

Great start!

Marius must have been wearing his special shorts.

Incredible facial colors and markings on the Hartebeest and the Kudu.

Very nice kudu and impala and I like the beest.
Congratulations and what s day you had.

Wow that is a great first day!

Day 3
We were looking for springbok on this day. So we get to the area where we are hunting talk with landowner and off we go. We spot some springbok in the distance so we set out to get a better look. We make our way towards the springbok and over on another hillside from where we started. Don’t see any shooters so we are glassing and Marius spots some springbok on the hillside we started on but higher and farther to our left. Marius puts the eagle eye on them and says he sees a ram that’s a shooter. So we watch them for a little while. They work from our left to right. When the springbok get to a place where we can start our stalk we make our move. We slowly work toward the animals using the terrain and what cover we can. The last 100 yards of the stalk is very slow because a lot of eyes around. We get to some cover and Marius says we will shoot from here. We wait while they feed in to a position where can take the shot. I get on the sticks and shoot. Springbok drops in his tracks.

Wind is starting to pick up and get very gusty. We take the springbok to skinning shed and get him squared away. We head back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch the wind is howling and as ole Jerry Clower says brother I mean forever more howling. So we find us a valley that is some what out of the wind and look for diker or bush buck. These are animals of opportunity for me if we take one fine if we don’t fine. Back to the lodge for dinner which is always great. I’m still in disbelief that this ole country boy has been blessed enough to have the African sun setting on his shoulders. Thank you LORD.

Keep it coming.

Enjoying the ride, like he said keep it coming.

Well done. Wonderful trophies. I hunted with Marius last year and will return in September for another round with KMG.

Keep it coming ... great stuff! I am off to hunt with Marius this summer again for Spotted Hyena and he never disappoints!

Hey, I thought that I was going to be the first hillbilly to grace KMG!!! Beautiful kudu...if Marius can find me one like that in July, I'll be one happy guy!!!

I can assure you that there has been a few pass through KMG over the years, myself included ... good luck in July!

Hi Gentleman,
Just got back home before next group arrives on Sunday. Sorted through trophies for collection this morning and managed to run the tape on the Impala. Went 25 2/8"

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
