SOUTH AFRICA: Hunting With Lake Safaris

Good looking animals

My wife and I hunted with Trevor Lake "Lake Safaris" this past June and we are glad we did. We found him here on africahunting.com. We did a web search for free range Nyala and it led us to him. After checking some of his references we corresponded back in forth. We liked what we heard and got excited about what he had to offer. He has some unique, true "free range" hunting areas with plenty of game. We were able to take some exceptional animals. We hunted every one of them. No fences or "put and take". It was boots on the ground and on the shooting sticks. I was fortunate enough to get the following; Nyala, Mountain Reedbuck, Common Reedbuck, Vaal Rhebok, Black Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, and a Blesbuck. My wife took a Nyala, a Zebra, and Bushbuck. Trevor delivered on everything he said he would except his nemesis the Bushpig. The pigs are still laughing at us.

We thought he was maybe 14.5 but young. We took a 13.5 two years back so I figured we could be selective. And no we did not find a bigger one darn it. Maybe next time. Trevor made up for it by finding the Hartebeest. He is 28+ raw. Never thought I wanted one until I saw this one.
It turns out the Hartebeest was 24 5/8 when the taxidermist measured him. Still a really nice bull. Trevor definitely delivered on everything he said he would. I even spent an evening in a blind waiting for his favorite quarry, the Bush pig. The trail cams revealed pigs after we left. That was OK in one way, if you don't shoot them you don't pay for them. :)
We're still reviewing pictures a month after our return and missing Natal. As with our first safari the participation far exceeded the anticipation. The planning has begun for 2018. This time either Niassa or Zim.

Great looking trophies! I'm amazed you got clear enough look to photograph the bushbuck and nyala.

My wife is pretty quick with the camera. Trevor's Nyala camp is crawling with nyala making it much easier to get a picture. Cathy and I would walk at lunch and spot them. Hunting is very limited on this ground the animals don't move off too quickly from the truck. Cathy and I managed to walk within shooting distance a couple of times. The Bushbuck was just luck. He was crossing a side road as we passed. We backed up turned in and drove toward him. He just stood and watched. Really some amazing spots.

Even at 24 plus your hartebeest will place very high in the SCI book. At 28 it would be a world record at least in my older book.

I have known Trevor Lake for many years now.
Very good hunter and solid guy.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
