September 17-26, 2019

My wife and I took our first plains game safari to South Africa with Zander Osmers Safaris. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, it was an amazing adventure. The accommodations and food were excellent. Zander Osmers doesn’t usually mix hunting parties, so we were the only party at the lodge. We would recommend them without reservation. African Hunting.com was an excellent resource, there is a lot of useful information on this site. Lori with Travel Express handled our flight arrangements. My wife and I shoot left handed, so rental firearms aren’t a viable option. Henry with Rifle Permits made it an easy task. The Impala, Kudu, Waterbuck, Warthog, Wildebeest were taken in Limpopo. Our Springbuck and Blesbuck were taken in Mpumalanga, a couple hour drive from the lodge. My wife Tishea took her warthog, Impala and Springbuck with a 30-06 shooting 165 gr Swift A-Frames, the Kudu and Wildebeest were taken with a 375 H&H shooting 250 gr Swift A-Frames, the remainder were taken with a 300 Win Mag shooting 180 gr Swift Sciroccos. We took several sightseeing trips to break up the hunting, Kruger National Park, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and some other local attractions. Every day that we hunted we saw a lot of game. I have read and dreamed of hunting in Africa for years, it was a dream come true. We are planning a return trip.

Congrats on a successful Safari, thanks for your report and welcome to our addiction.

JDTx, you and the Mrs. had a great hunt. When are you planning to go back, what will be on the menu for your future hunts?

We are looking at 2021, she would like a sable and I am thinking an eland. Plus others as opportunities present themselves. On our first trip, waterbuck and wildebeest weren’t on our radar. We had budgeted money for extras. Glad we did.

Congratulations! It looks like you two had a great FIRST safari and took some nice trophies.
You are now officially addicted to hunting Africa. Welcome to the party!

Uh, Oh! After such a wonderful hunt you done got hooked and the only remedy is to go back again and again and again. There is no cure for the Africa Syndrome.

Awesome first hunt with some great memories.

And the African Addiction epidemic has claimed two more victims.

sounds like you had a great time with a good outfit

Congratulations on a great first trip. Wonderful animals and great experiences hunting together. Enjoy planning your return.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
