Wow, what a great hunt so far, and some fine animals taken. I meant to ask if you had any issues traveling with the suppressor?

@PARA45 - No issues at all either leaving the US or returning. I did have a form 4457 for it in case they thought I was importing it from SA.

Day 5 – Saturday

Today we are looking for wildebeest and a nice pig on the lodge property. Off at sunup and hadn’t driven far before Timba had spotted a herd of blues from the back of the truck. I’m still amazed how these guys can spot animals in the brush!

Off the truck for short stalk through the brush to come up downwind of the herd. Up on the sticks and the PH got me on the blue we wanted and pulled the trigger. He took off like a lightning bolt but I had cycled another round and gave him another dose and down he went. Thinking to myself that the first shot was felt good and he ran away like a fly bit him! That shot was probably unnecessary but it was good insurance.

Blue Wildebeest

Took some time for some photos and loaded him up and headed back to the skinning shed to let the skinners do their work. Then we headed into town to grab some salt and do a couple other small errands. While in town Nick had heard from a houndsman that the dogs had a caracal scent they were working. Nick thought we may be able to add a caracal to my box! We ran around with the dogs for awhile but they doubled back to the other half of the pack who had put a jackal to ground. No caracal today but it was exciting to watch the dogs work.

Hounds

After that we headed to the lodge for lunch and a short siesta. The time difference and not sleeping very well were catching up with me. After a power nap we headed back out to the large pig we had spotted on the property. From high on the hill we spotted him in the same spot he was in a couple days prior. Dismounted the truck and started the long slow walk on a steep downhill grade. Finally we got down to the bottom and planned the last couple hundred yards stalk.

We got there and I decided to use a fence post instead of the sticks for the shot. PH ranged him and I believe it was about 240 yds. I thought this should be easy, no problem but the fence post was giving me fits trying to get it steady. So the tracker leaned into me to steady me and I touched off the shot…. I turned around the PH & tracker were suddenly examining rocks and looking down at the ground. They both confirmed the shot was high. I looked for a small hole to crawl into but couldn’t find one close. I felt about 2” inches tall by this point. Damn, these pigs are a voodoo hex on me and really getting in my head. Last shot on a pig was low, now a shot was high!

Warthogs 2 – Hunter 0

Well, back to the lodge to lick my wounds...

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
