Don't even know where to begin but what an amazing hunt this was. We began planning this hunt back in October of 2023 and went may of 2025. When this idea came about people thought I was nuts as this hunt was all on me. I sold everything I had and saved as much of every paycheck I could. Who all was going was me, my father, my uncle, and great uncle. My father and great uncle had went already in 2010 and my great uncle before that in 2007. In 2010 my uncle got a lioness and they offered my father the opportunity to hunt one as well. He says my Mom told him he was not allowed so he said no at the time. Fast forward 15 years and is full of regret. Its all I heard growing up and is his biggest regret. This hunt in 2025 he was gonna fix that. Our list consisted of many plains game for me and my uncle but I was gonna shoot a lioness and my father as well. My father as well was going for cape buffalo. My great uncle had a few things but really just wanted to watch us hunt. We took off from Newark airport bringing along a Remington 375 H&H and a Remington 338 ultra mag. We landed and headed for the arrival lodge where we got about 4 hours of sleep before heading out bright and early to the Kalahari about a 8 hour drive. The first animal we were going after was my lioness i know what a way to start the hunt and what a first animal to go for. We got on tracks early before seeing off the truck 2 lioness together they had met up the night before and the chase began. we force marched for about 3.5 miles before sneaking up on them. Mine was distracted digging a hole throwing sand what must have been 8 feet in the air. She stopped once she heard the safety go off on the gun we were about 40 yards and boom landed a good shot which dropped her. She got up and ran maybe 10 yards before expiring. We took pictures quickly and got right back on the other one who stayed in the area. We chased her for another mile and a half before climbing a tree. My father made a perfect shot and dropped her right out of the tree. We had got so lucky that morning we were supposed to spend at least 3 days there but got it done early. This lion was so emotional for me it immediately took our breathes away and just am so grateful for the opportunity. In the Kalahari I was able to harvest a gemsbuck later that day and a Kalahari springbuck as well.

We than traveled to the north west providence to hunt the buffalo. For 4 days we tracked and stalked a couple heards. One big bull stood out we were about 20 yards from him on the first day but my father needed one more step but he would not give it for the clear shot. Fast forward to day 4 bright in early we got in on a heard and it was him. Once again he needed one more step but he spotted us and got spooked we repositioned and my father made one perfect shot right threw the heart. The bull went about 40 yards before falling over and expiring. My father would have been satisfied with anything a 38" buffalo a 37" but this one measured in 44 3/4 a absolute monster.

We moved onto Gauteng to finish the hunt. Now I did not have sable on my list but after seeing my uncles I couldn't stop thinking about it. I decided to trade in my blue wildebeest and zebra as well as warthog to take some money off the sable and go for one. We spent a afternoon looking for one before coming across the perfect one. Not to big to where id have to pay the upgrade fee cause I was running low on funds but a nice 39 inch ram.

To finish off I just want say africa was a incredible experience. We booked with Somerby Safaris and they were incredible. Our guide Schulk and Hugo made the trip extra special and can not thank them enough. I feel so lucky and grateful to go at so young but I can say I'm absolutely addicted and think about going back everyday. We are already planning to go back in 4 years hopefully I can do a cape buffalo that's my next goal. I can not recommend enough to go to Africa you will not regret it.

Great story and congratulations! It's remarkable that at your age you are willing to sacrifice material items to experience a hunt like this with your family, you will see even more later on in life how special this trip was.

Thanks for sharing. Some really beautiful trophies in there. Hope your mom has relented and will allow lioness taxidermy in the house!

Congratulations on a very successful safari. I commend you on how to prioritize and save for your safari (1st of many) I am very envious that you were able to do this hunt with your dad, uncle, and great uncle. Job well done!!!
