Blue Wildebeest.jpgHarley.jpg

I just returned from a "Father - Son" hunt pacakage with Madala Safaris. By far, the best outing I have ever had in Africa. This was my third trip, and I brought my 10-year son and 69-year old father along (he observed). It was a great trip.

I founnd Nic Roets through an internet search. I know, this can be bad - but it was a great place to start. We started communicating by email and phone and he was very responsive and offered to customize any package I wanted. My son wanted plains game, particularly a Kudu and a Blue Wildebeest. I wanted a good Red Hartebeest.

Nic put together a package and my good hunting buddy, Walker Blanton, decided to come along and bring his 12-year old grandson.

I booked for August 10th through the 16th. 5 hunting days, 6 nights in the lodge.

I used Air 2000 to assist with meet and greet and permits and we were off the plane and on the trucks within 30 minutes. Nic and his team met us as gun collection.

Absolutely NO PROBLEMS from SAA or the police. Smooth as silk.

We drove a little over 3 hours to the Limpopo region. Our lodge was near Dwaalboom, just on the southern side of the Madikwe preserve. Our accomodations were terrific. We stayed in tents with all the amenities. Information on the lodge can be found at Index of /

Nic had another PH and assistant on board to help with Walker and his grandson. He guided my son and I. We got ALL of the animals we were looking for. Ashton, my son, got the Blue Wildebeest on the second day, and then hunted his Kudu, Impala and Warthog. All were taken with a rifle.

My Red Hartbeest was a challenge, but at the end of day 4, we were able to spot one and a moderately long shot led to success.

Nic is very knowledgeable and excellant with first time hunters, experienced hunters and observers alike. We hunted 2 different areas. The terrain was dense and spotting was difficult, but doable. We were there in the windy season and that posed some challenges as well.

Food and wine were first class and a major spread was prepared for the last night with game the young hunters had shot. They were amazed!

I give Nic and Madala Safaris 10 out 10. Book with him and you WILL NOT be dissapointed!

Good point. I have no daughter, but no matter what, hunting with those you love is the ultimate.

Ethan you were successful on that Hartebeest!
Glad it worked out and everyone was happy.

Yes. I had wanted to take the Hartebeest with a handgun, but the conditions weren't right. I am waiting on the SCI measurements, but the PH and local taxidermist have it at 70" so I am pretty pleased. Regardless of size, it was an awfully fun hunt!

Congrats to you and the young man.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
