SOUTH AFRICA: Andri Fox Safaris Hunt

Great write up Cody. Our kids grow up fast! Enjoy these precious times.

Good looking nayala, love the way the stripes fade out on the hindquarter of Saxon's zebra and the way your Impala has all of the shading on the face. Looked at those rifle rest this morning on the web, they look like something I could use a couple of.

Thanks guys for the comments. I actually met Claude RRRgunrests.com at a gun show in Houston a while back. I thought he had a great product, just wish he would have had it 30 years ago. It would have saved many of my wood stocks as I shot off of limbs, tree stumps, rocks and the occasional fence post. Claude and I started talking because he had Africa hunting pictures on his display at the booth. I told him that I was going over in a couple months. i told him I was hunting with Andri and he told me he has hunted twice with him and was booked to return shortly after my hunt. We have kept in touch pretty regularly since then. The pictures that he sent me while he and his daughter hunted with Fox helped ease me back into the grind.
Claude is a good man, I highly recommend his gun rest. Here is a close up of it, it is well passed on the bottom side and holds snugly to your rifle.

Sorry, well padded, damn auto correct!

I saw that in a pic and was wondering what it was. Interesting.

Cody, is there a local dealer like Academy or do you have to buy directly from RRR?

I believe you buy direct from Claude, he has several color options. I'm going to have him put our company logo on some for me to hand out to my customers that hunt. It would beat the hell out of a coffee mug or a hat!

That's awesome, I would certainly love to be handed one of these instead of a calendar or something! Nice, good for you!

And here I thought you chose your rifle as the place to carry your coozy.

Feel free to send me a prototype to field test, I'd hate for you to pass out an inferior product. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Why didn't I think of that! Good thinking Wheels!

The next day Andri arranged a driven hunt on his property. He went to town and collected a troop of guys and dropped them at the far end of the property. Michael, Saxon and I set up in the corner of the property. Soon you could hear the guys hooting, hollaring and banging rocks as they walked through the bush. A couple warthogs came screaming out into my sendero and I applied a proper helping of swift a-frame love to the back of the head of the first one and the second escaped before I could get on him. A few minutes later Saxon said he had a warthog in his lane. Well shoot it boy! That he did, a bit far back but a little help from dad, and he quit running. I am getting better at this back up gun thing!
When we regrouped we found out that a local young man that was hunting with us took a fine kudu during the drive. What a great experience it was to be a part of this.

The results of our driven hunt.
We returned to the house where Herman, Andri's friend, cooked up the liver of the kudu, Saxon and I had bacon and eggs. The liver smelled and looked delicious but I just can't bring myself to eat it after having it force fed to me as a kid. I used to tell my dad that I hit everything in the liver so I could explain not bringing it out of the woods. I was very tempted to try it, but I had a hint of gout starting in my ankle and I didn't want to put any fuel on that fire.
We went that afternoon to Andri's family property in search of Duiker. This was our final animal that was included in the package. I was up to bat on the little guy. On the way there Fox spotted a warthog in the field and grabbed Saxon and away they went. As they went into the bush a duiker flew out toward us and disappeared into the other side of the road, next out came two bat eared fox. What a cool little critter they are, I watched them until The guys returned. Saxon had missed a shot on the pig, Andri is absolutely rabid over warthogs! Much like farmers in Texas are, quite destructive they are. We saw several Duiker, at least Andri did, seems my Duiker vision had not yet been established, but I pretended to see them just the same. We found one that was a shooter, 150 yards or so, settled the firedot on him, squeeze trigger, duiker runs. When you shoot things the size of a small healer with a 375 H&H you would expect a dynamic result! I was about to pull the same temper tantrum that I do when I attempt to play golf! Michael confirmed him down? He ran a good 40 yards before tipping over, the shot was spot on. I at that moment realized I was one duiker killing SOB! Lol
Now the tiny ten have never really done much for me until I laid my hands on this beautiful little antelope. I instantly started planning on a trip to collect more with Andri. His trophy room also helped with the very classy way they are displayed.

Super cool animal that will create a loud sucking sound from my wallet in the near future.

Father's Day

i was pleased to see Andri's daughter was able to make it home from school to see him for Father's Day. I was very happy to be spending the day with Saxon in Africa. I told him that a bushbuck would make a fine Father's Day Present, he said he would buy me a bongo if he had the money. Maybe one day he can haul the old man across the pond when he makes his stake on life.
Andri already had Stevai out looking for bushbuck while we ate our breakfast. We headed out to glass the river banks and spotted a couple female and a male with a down turned horn. We walked down to a good vantage point on a sheer faced cliff that over looked the Bushman River and there was a fine bushbuck grazing in the thorns. Andri liked him, I loved him! The RRR rest earned its wages on the jagged edge of that cliff as I took the shot. The bushbuck dropped at the shot. I was very happy with this bushbuck, I think they are one of the most beautiful creatures the lord placed on the earth.

Father's Day Bushbuck
I couldn't be happier with this guy, the shot, the location on the cliff and a lion roaring in the background at the game reserve made this one a truly memorable morning.
That afternoon we planned on going to look for a Kudu for me. I told Andri that I would like one to better mine at home. Beans @tootabivalleysafaris had been off on a hunt and I was looking forward to meeting him and Andri told me he was back and asked if we wanted to go see him. Load up the castle cooler and let's go! I had a great visit and what a magnificent place he has. The renovation of his lodge is top notch. Saxon and the dogs got along famously while we made sure our livers were not left out of the fun. Beans is a great guy and I wish him much success. I look forward to hunting with him one day. And Beans I appreciate the hospitality and really enjoyed my time at your place.

Saxon glassing a warthog from Bean's front lawn.

Seemed that the sun went down early that night for some reason and we didn't get any kudu hunting in! The moon was completely full on this night.

Kudu steaks on the braii, scotch in the hand and good company around the fire back at Andri's. Made for an excellent Father's Day.

PM your address and I will send you one of mine.
No need, you already sold me on the product and the the wife has us two coming in the mail. Was only pulling your leg, I'm not the freeloading Hillary loving type. But I do appreciate your generosity, we need to have a beer one of these days when I'm in town. Nice bushbuck by the way, looks like you had a grand of a Fathers Day.

Nice pics and story from Fathers day! Congrats

Awesome Cody! I'm so glad you and Sax had a good time and you certainly took some excellent animals. We're going to have to go together with our boys. Andri and Beans will be in trouble with the two of us together. :D
Ha ha ha cant wait to sit around the fire with the 2 of you guys !!!

Absolutely, let me know when you are here, beer is always cold, bar is always stocked and plenty of ammo for some big bore shooting off the porch.

Besides I need to "field test" that rifle I built. (y)
Yes indeed a field test on some culls would make for a great day or two! I bet Mr. Fox can make that happen!

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
