The next day Andri arranged a driven hunt on his property. He went to town and collected a troop of guys and dropped them at the far end of the property. Michael, Saxon and I set up in the corner of the property. Soon you could hear the guys hooting, hollaring and banging rocks as they walked through the bush. A couple warthogs came screaming out into my sendero and I applied a proper helping of swift a-frame love to the back of the head of the first one and the second escaped before I could get on him. A few minutes later Saxon said he had a warthog in his lane. Well shoot it boy! That he did, a bit far back but a little help from dad, and he quit running. I am getting better at this back up gun thing!
When we regrouped we found out that a local young man that was hunting with us took a fine kudu during the drive. What a great experience it was to be a part of this.
The results of our driven hunt.
We returned to the house where Herman, Andri's friend, cooked up the liver of the kudu, Saxon and I had bacon and eggs. The liver smelled and looked delicious but I just can't bring myself to eat it after having it force fed to me as a kid. I used to tell my dad that I hit everything in the liver so I could explain not bringing it out of the woods. I was very tempted to try it, but I had a hint of gout starting in my ankle and I didn't want to put any fuel on that fire.
We went that afternoon to Andri's family property in search of Duiker. This was our final animal that was included in the package. I was up to bat on the little guy. On the way there Fox spotted a warthog in the field and grabbed Saxon and away they went. As they went into the bush a duiker flew out toward us and disappeared into the other side of the road, next out came two bat eared fox. What a cool little critter they are, I watched them until The guys returned. Saxon had missed a shot on the pig, Andri is absolutely rabid over warthogs! Much like farmers in Texas are, quite destructive they are. We saw several Duiker, at least Andri did, seems my Duiker vision had not yet been established, but I pretended to see them just the same. We found one that was a shooter, 150 yards or so, settled the firedot on him, squeeze trigger, duiker runs. When you shoot things the size of a small healer with a 375 H&H you would expect a dynamic result! I was about to pull the same temper tantrum that I do when I attempt to play golf! Michael confirmed him down? He ran a good 40 yards before tipping over, the shot was spot on. I at that moment realized I was one duiker killing SOB! Lol
Now the tiny ten have never really done much for me until I laid my hands on this beautiful little antelope. I instantly started planning on a trip to collect more with Andri. His trophy room also helped with the very classy way they are displayed.
Super cool animal that will create a loud sucking sound from my wallet in the near future.
Andri's display.
