Our governor issues a stay at home order and literally said "over 70% of america will get the virus" and "michigan is the next Italy". My dang dog can read well enough to know those stats are beyond false. It should be criminal to make those statements in a position of power.

Italy has been officially declared a Third World Country recently. The population averages 80 and has poor health care. When you hear the talking heads using Italy as a comparison to the US you know they are blind or agenda driven.
So what if 70% of the population get this? Most all people have little to NO SYMPTOMS!
EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ CDC NUMBERS FOR FLU. Then compare the the current "crisis" and THINK!

I think the virus is real. But the people in power used it to their advantage. The virus was going to hurt the stock market. So they created all this fear to really tank it. They talked of the economy being shut down for months. Now they created this golden buying opportunity they come out and say. You older people stay in self quarantine and the rest get on back to work and drink water and take an aspirin. I notice stocks are surging this morning. Hell I'm paying the game and staying home and buying a little stock every once in a while. It's sad how they they screwed the general public.

You are very correct. Volatility always benefits the big money traders. Wow what a fella could have done with a couple million selling short this market and then waiting and buying the bottom.
You are also correct the virus is real and it is new and it is highly infectious. But that is where it stops. It will NEVEN come close to the flu in cases or deaths. China has 1.4B people and lost 3200 to this. I mean a nasty country where people eat bats, have no hygiene and live on top of one another, have poor health care, and only lost 3200. Perspective people!

Unfortunately there is more to the world than US politics.
This is a real and a lot of people are dying. Waiting to hear further measures to be implemented in South Africa today, you don't know how bad this can hit a lesser developed country with a fragile healthcare system.

Sorry you must educate yourself by comparing this the the common flu. We have lost in the USA 23000 this year to the common flu. End of discussion!

My hunts were mid May to Ghanzi Botswana and Port Elizabeth SA. Looks like I couldn't go if I wanted. Debated later this year or move out a year. Delta Airlines and my lodging bookings offered me a one year out rebooking. I'm taking my wife and given all the uncertainty I chose the safer one year out. Keep in mind this is a pleasure trip, not something to create a life or death event over. When I went to change my flights in Africa I found out that South Africa Airways has severed relations with South Africa Airlink. I was flying to Maun and also back Joburg and Port Eliz. I received notification from nobody but discovered my bookings were canceled when I tried to reschedule. To rebook I need to do so directly with Airlink. The money I gave SA Airways is confiscated. All they will allow me to do is rebook to somewhere else they continue to service. Either this thing will be passed by next year or doing it will be the least of our concerns.

That stinks. Yeah, Qatar canceled two of my legs and I've received no notification from them and they have not responded to my emails. Next year, hopefully the world will be back on track?

At the news conference last evening, Dr. Fauci mentioned pointed out that the southern hemisphere and southern Africa was entering winter and the start of another cycle of the virus.

No it will not. There would 100% be stiff resistance. We are not Italy and there are enough folks with common sense so left to analyze the data and realize the economic effects (suicides, etc) are more dangerous TO THE UNITED STATES than the virus

I read today that 80% of U.S. citizens will get the virus. It seems once you have had the virus and recovered that you should be free to travel since you are no longer a carrier but they're doing just the opposite in requiring a negative COVID-19 test. And I guess it means 80% of us won't ever be able to hunt Africa again! This is crazy.

I'm not sure but I think once you recover you would test negative for covid-19. Then restrictions placed while you were infected would be removed?

I am with both of you. June 10th departure for 14 day safari. Been in touch with outfitter and waiting till late May to see what happens before making any decisions

Hantavirus isn't new to China, or anywhere else for that matter. Though it too is getting a lot of attention at this moment, an increase in infection is very unlikely since it doesn't transmit human to human. Pest control and proper hygiene will keep that disease under control.

There has always been and always will be another virus surfacing. And each year a lot of folks die from the complication of those seasonal viral infections. Fatalities in the US this year from the regular influenza is reported to be approaching 20k. I’m not sure where we will end up for fatalities from the COVID-19. (1704 in the US and 28,376 for world as of this AM), but there will be another for sure.

So the solution or objective now for future seasons cannot be to stop this virus, or stop that virus with a vaccine. I believe It will come down to a multinational capability to do real time testing for infection and having procedures in place to mitigate the impacts of any seasonal virus without bringing global economies to an indefinite halt.

Seems we are close to having real time testing. This is only part of why I believe there will be travel to RSA and safaris in 2020. The other reason is because our economies will not tolerate a 6 month shut down. And transportation is critical to all economies.
